Corn, Corn and more Corn... Corn pudding, Corn cake, Cornmeal, Corn that's been boiled, Corn that's been roasted. It is safe to say that the Colonists always had corn. They did have other things to eat, but it is important to remember that they grew, raised or traded for all their food because there were no places to purchase food. No Wegmans to grab a sub, sushi or salad. I'm not sure I would enjoy eating in Colonial Times. On one hand I LOVE eating food I grew and made myself. On the other I like variety...no mango, avocado or swiss cheese in Colonial Times, you could only had what was around you and local

But school still has the some of most punishments. Some punishments are the dunce cap, which is were if you do not know your lessons, you have to wear the dunce cap. The wispering sticks which is where if you whisper to a friend you had to put whispering sticks in your mouth. If you were caught biting your fingers you wold wear a card that said bitefinger baby. The house still had many punishments such as, if the wife talked back to the husban she had to get dunked in a river while the wife is srapped in a chair. Many people died in ways that can be prevented today because now we have a lot more 🤬 and medicines that we can use. Malaria kills one child every 30 seconds, about 3000 children every day in Africa!!!!!!!!

Way back then, in colonial times, clothes were very different from what we wear now. For instance, girls had to wear these STUPID things called stays. Personally, I love to lounge around, but stays made you sit up straight. Boys had to wear them too, but only until they were six. After that, the boys were "breeched". This custom meant they could ditch the stays for knee length pants called breeches. Girls always had to wear their stays, even when sleeping! Today, I wouldn't wear a stay to save my life. Girls also wore shifts under their stays, and over the stays they wore petticoats, gowns and aprons. This seems uncomfortable!

First of all, entertainment has changed a lot. In the colonial times, chasing pigs was a type of entertainment. Sometimes they held contests, whoever held the pig by the tail first, would get to bring the pig home and cook it, so they could have bacon and pork. Most of the girls sewed and played with dolls made of corn husks and dried fruit. Boys liked playing ball. The ball was made of leather, they would toss it back and forth. No basketball, soccer, football or any of those sports. All the kids played games like hide and seek, London bridge and blind mans bluff. Some children played with things called whirligigs. Whirligigs are toys that spin. They are kind of like tops, but they have string handles. One crazy thing is you weren't allowed to go sledding, or you weren't allowed to dance! One thing for sure is that I would absolutely hate playing/living in colonial times.

PUNISHMENTS
Back then there where a lot of punishments like if a wife talked back to her husband she would get dunked in water three times. There where a lot of school masters kept a really big stick with them most of the time so they could hit kids that miss behaved. That is not the only punishment if you did not behave. if you did not know what the teacher just said you where called the dunce you had to sit on a stool called the dunce stool and had to wear a cap called the dunce cap. sometimes you had to wear some leather eye glass frames. If you whispered to your friend you had to put wooden sticks that where called whispering stick's in your mouth. If you did not pay attention to the teacher then you had to wear a card around your neck that said idle boy. And if you got caught biting your finger nails then you had to wear a card that said bite finger baby around your neck. And a VERY cruel school master made you cut small branch from a tree and then they would make you put it in your nose for 1 hour. There where a lot of other punishment's outside of school to if you broke the law. There was hanging, being killed, dunked, and more. And it is said that the first man to in the Boston stocks was the man who made them!!!!! If a wife talked back to there husband they where dunked in a pond. if you fell asleep at the meeting house. if you smiled or whispered the tithing man would take your name down and then you would have to pay a fine. WAIT. Do not go yet I said in the title that I tell yu would

DEATH
people died like today but sometimes they did not. People died of old age but now it would not be considered OLD. back then people did not live that long and would die WAY before us. But people did not just die of old age. Sometimes they would die of punishments or traveling they would die of punishments because they stole something like a silver spoon. They would also die of traveling because some unfriendly natives attacked the mail person or they fell off a cliff.

it took me a few minutes to decide on this topic because there is so many great topics for colonial times! I love learning about these times almost as much as i would hate LIVING in them. One of the many reasons why i would hate it is how hard it was to travel. Way back then there was no cars, and there would not be any for about another 200 years. no bikes, scooters, roller skates, you name it. which leaves people with two choices: walking or riding a horse. scratch that... some people did NOT have choices. Only the richest of people had horses... or even one horse! so most people had to walk. A "healthy" person should be able to walk 40 miles in 10 hours! whew! And I just ran (and walked) the 5K. So... if there are no cars, were there roads? Yes. and no. The roads were full of holes and trees and things. In some ways the roads were the worst way to travel. In rural areas the roads were pretty much just paths, and bridges were logs... if there were any at all!

hunting was important it was a good source of food. But in one there where rules about hunting more like a law about hunting that every man had to shoot three cows or twelve black birds between the middle of march and the last day of June. But now you can shoot what ever you want, but there are still laws about hunting like that you must get a licence but you should hunt at a time called hunting season. But I think that the law about how many animals is bad because what if people do not want to hunt? that is what I think about colonial times hunting.

By: Rumi

But... at age 6 baby's wound stop wearing the Pudding. Fun Fact girls and women would bring a spin wheel every time they rode on the backs of horses. Girls were showed how to spin at 6 years old considering the fact only boys went to school girls would stay home and learn to spin clothes and clean and tighty up the house(there mothers would teach them HOW to do this). For females the time to make clothes was whenever they pleased to or needed to(so anytime they could). Colonialists made thread colonial people would plant flax. No one bought clothes (unless they needed to) they just raised sheep instead. Everyone in the family helped make clothes not just girls. That is all there is about outfit's for colonial times .By:Una

I will show you how much different transportation was in the colonial days compared to now. And just to make it clear in the colonial times the colonial people didn't have cars, bikes, planes, motorcycles, motorboats and a ton of other stuff now that that's clear to you for sure I guess we can start. In the Colonial times and we could say it was Winter and the roads where filled with snow. Then the Colonial people would use a pung or a pod instead of a carriage. a pung was a sleigh pulled by two horses and a pod was the same just pulled by one horse. And usually Colonists preferred traveling with a boat instead of a carriage, horse or oxen cause it was a lot faster. Since in the colonial times the roads where super duper narrow and they would either be muddy or dusty and cause the roads always had holes on them. Now I hope you've learned a bit of transportation in the colonial times.

most of all boys like playing ball it was a leather ball filled with feathers and they would play catch with it. They had tops to spin, drums to bang and had popguns to pop, they had hoops to roll, marbles to shoot. Trees to climb and icy ponds to skate on. Their skates were made with wooden runners and some kids played blind mans bluff. There was no soccer or basket ball or any sports that you might play.

Medicine By Nina

Medicine was VERY weird in the colonial times. For example "If someone has a high fever, Cut their nails and put them in a bag of fine linen. Put a live eel in a tub of water. Tie the bag around the eels neck. The eel will die, and the sick man will get better." Doesn't that sound WEIRD!? Well...in my opinion it does. Some people got water and called it medicine. And they thought water was poisonous at the time. I think saying water is medicine is really cruel. So DON'T do it!! Every family grew their own herbs in their gardens. The herbs would help things heal faster. In my opinion I HATE the idea of water as medicine. It's like saying a dog is a cat! But, I HATE lies. I get them at home all the time. What i'm trying to say is DON'T LIE! Be honest.

In Colonial times, the Law was VERY strict as well as weird. For example,It was against the law for a backer to bake bad bread,or for the brewer to brew bad beer. There were laws for every day of the week... special laws for Sunday. On Sunday,EVERYONE had to church (the meetinghouse)even baby's!Because baby's are to young and not able to sit up straight on the cold wooden benches of the Meetinghouse, they where put in wooden cages (like playpens)where they could lie down.In colonial times, there was a law that said that every man had to work on the rods a few days a month. The colonial laws were very strict!
