Hi newest springies! It's so exciting to welcome you to Mount Holyoke as a previous spring admit myself. It seems daunting sometimes to join a bustling campus mid-year, but I promise you'll settle into a routine, and find your people and your place in orgs/sports/campus jobs, etc. You're joining an amazing community of wonderful faculty, friendly staff, a welcoming student body, and a tremendous network of alums who are still connected with MoHo today (like myself)! I hope that you partake in everything you can that Mount Holyoke has to offer 😊

Mal Linn

2017 Springie/December 2020 graduate

Welcome to what I affectionately call "the Happiest Place on Earth". The people at MHC a generous, supportive, and amazing. I still remember my first day: I was looking for Shattuck Hall (and obviously confused) when a student said "where are you trying to get to?"...and then "You're an FP? Welcome to Mount Holyoke." The vibe, that helpfulness, that belonging lasted all the while I was there.

The college provides a transformative experience, so be open to it. Get ready to make life-long friendships, study hard, participate in the traditions, and enjoy the comradery that comes with being a Moho!

Wishing you success this semester and every semester,

Diane

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since I was in your shoes... Arriving at MHC when the campus was already blanketed in snow. In many ways, it felt like I arrived late at a party - most students were already familiar with the campus, had made friends, and settled into a rhythm. It was intimidating at first, but I was so touched by how thoughtful and helpful both the staff and other students were. The Spring orientation sessions and the activities they had planned for us really helped me feel welcome. One of these activities, by the way, included ice cream in Northampton when it was FREEZING! I'm not sure if they still do that, but y'all, bundle UP - I was coming from Texas and nearly died. 🥶😂

But the best part? On the first day of orientation, I met another Springie who would become one of my best friends to this day!

I hope you enjoy every moment, make lifelong friends, and stay warm! This is a very special place and I'm so happy that you get to experience it.

Natascha Martens (Nen) '05

We are so excited that you are part of our community. As you become familiar with Mount Holyoke and our community, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone a bit and take advantage of our wonderful community.

My favorite MHC moments came from unexpected connections and new experiences: Try something new to you at the Dining Commons. Visit the Fimbel Maker and Innovation Lab and the Art Museum. Have a surprisingly deep conversation over M&Cs with someone you just met. Find a favorite spot on campus to relax. (I'm partial to Upper Lake and the music library in Pratt.)

We're so glad you are here!

There might be moments of doubt and difficulty—like when you first arrive (probably surrounded by snow haha). But remember, spring is just around the corner. You’re going to be fine. 💫

I still remember when I received my spring admission offer from MoHo. I was excited, but also pretty anxious. Would I adapt to the environment abroad? Would starting in the spring affect my academic plans? Would I truly love it here? But looking back—it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only did I make lifelong friends, but I also reached my academic goals, graduated early, and even moved to the UK to pursue my dreams.

You can do this too. And most importantly—I hope you enjoy every step of the journey, just like I did. 🌸

Lesley Dong

2017 Springie

2020 Graduate

Welcome to Mount Holyoke! I hope you enjoy the next 4 years. I was a Springie in 2015 and remember feeling pretty overwhelmed coming on campus when other students had already started. But, I found my people (shout out Nice Shoes a cappella) and eventually got used to campus and the swing of things.

Take advantage of as many opportunities as you can. Don't be too hard on yourself, you've made it this far and will do wonderful things. Remember to have faith in the process. And, enjoy MoHome! You've got this!!! <3

I was a spring entrant coming into MHC, and it was a tough first semester, with the cold, blistering winters and so many established friend groups already. I won't sugar coat and say it was easy; I eventually found my footing the following semester after joining clubs that spoke to me and getting to know a much wider crew of people. Tea ceremonies at Wa Shin An kept me going in those long winter evenings -- keep an eye out for when they might host one! Hang in there and cozy up!
