Our modern understanding of the universe is quite similar to the heliocentric understanding with the slight difference of knowing that this is just for our solar system and not the whole Universe. The Sun and the planets move in elliptical orbits around the center of the universe, which is usually the sun with slight exceptions.

Nicolaus Copernicus

Copernicus believed in the Heliocentric model, one he thought of himself.

Claim: Developed the Heliocentric model where the Sun is the center of the universe.

Flaw: Circular orbits were terrible for predicting orbits

Johannes Kepler

Kepler believed in the heliocentric model.

Claim: Kepler added to the heliocentric model showing that planets didn't move in circles but rather ellipses, which fit the planets, and explained some intricacies.

Flaw: Not many considering that the math had fit the motion of the planets with Ellipses surprisingly well.

Galileo Galilei

Galileo believed in the heliocentric model.

Claim: Disproved the geocentric model by observing that as Venus had gone through phases it was coming closer and further from Earth as if it was revolving around something other than the Earth.

Flaw: None as this was concrete evidence

Aristotle

Claim: Aristotle explained that the earth stood in the middle of the whole universe and that everything around us moved in perfect circles.

Flaw: Didn't explain why planets sometimes change brightness or go in different directions.

Ptolemy

Claim: Ptolemy also believed that everything around the earth moved in perfect circles.

Flaw: Didn't explain why planets sometimes change brightness or go in different directions.

Zhang Heng

Heng's beliefs aligned with those of the geocentric model

Claim: Heng had believed that the universe was similar to an egg as the universe was round like an egg while the stars were the shell and the yolk was the Earth.
