During the WWI a lot of women were really against the idea of fighting and war. There were so many women that were against this that a group of women came together and called themselves the Womens peace party. They met in Washinton DC and protested the war. They really pushed for peaceful resolution during the wartime. They showed the US a lot of what people were thinking, and got into some politics during this time as well.

Someone that became a big role model or inspiration for women, was Jeanette Rankin, She was the first women in the United States to go into Congress. She was also a very big pacifist and talked against the WWI. She worked with the Womens peace party as well. But really the big takeaway of this is that she showed so many women that you can make it to office and keep your beliefs. She provided support for those that fought against the United States go into WWI.

Something that the government set up to help working women during the WWI was the Women Committee of the Council of National Defense. This was a committee lead for women by women. The committee focused on organize and guiding the women who were helping do work during the war. They provided tasks that needed to be done, for example if a certain city needed volunteers to help with war effort, they would send some women there.

During the WWI, many farmers left to go join the fight in the war. That meant the United States needed people to take over farming. This was were the Womans Land Army came in, they did all the agricultural work that was left while farmers fought. They were given the more feminized name, Farmerettes. There were thousands of women that worked full time in almost every state. This showed people that women can do the work that is typically led by males.

For women something they really dominated in during this time was nursing. Specifically in the red cross. During the war there were obvious many people that were injured and they were in dire need of nurses. This is where women were able to really step in and say Step back, we got this. There were 20,000 women that went all over the world to assist and aid men where it was needed. There were in the army and navy corps. There was also the salvation army, there were hundreds of women that went to the front lines to provide clothing, food and spiritual support.

They helped bring calls to the right source in a timely manner. They made sure things ran quickly and the right information was delivered. These women did not really fight on the field, but they helped build machines, operate telephones, worked as chemists and provided medical service, including pharmacy. They were eventually faded out after the war and were known and Yeoman. They mainly replaced the work that men did before the war.

In other countries where war is continuously being broken out, a lot of local women are captured or stranded. These women are the best source for intel, but because of either religious reasons or fear they will not talk to men. Luckily there are female soldiers who can step in and talk to these women to get intel and learn more about whats going on. This has been such a common occurance since 2000, so Militaries have created groups called the Female Engagement Teams that get intel from these women.

In 2010, the military repealed the Dont ask, Dont Tell. Which meant do not show that you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and you will not get any consequences. This of course made many people uncomfortable. But in 2010 that was repealed so people can be open about there sexuality, which provides a safer more open space in the military.

Up until 2016, there was a ban on transgender soldier, mostly on Male to female. This banned anyone who was transgender, but some female to male transgender people got through to the military. This ended in 2016 but came back in 2019, then luckily in 2021 in was ended again. So now any transgender person can enlist in the military.
