Planned Response
No, I don't think I would want to work in a mall. I don't like the idea of my job being that of providing service to others like how the workers give massages to their customers. One reason, for instance, is that I don't want to deal with people who think they are entitled and can treat the workers however rudely they want. I cannot tolerate people who don't know how to treat others with politeness and respect. One other reason is that the idea of doing service for other people doesn't appeal to me, as I like to do work for myself and not for others. I'd rather take control of how I do things, rather than trying to meet the customer's needs out of my own free will.
Spoken Interaction
Qn 1: My parents would agree with me. My father was a freelancer who built computers for a living. He told me once that he used to be a civil worker, but he said he disliked the idea of working under people, and wanted to do things that he enjoyed doing, so he turned his interest into a freelancer job. I aspire to be like him, as I like being independent for myself too, but if I have to do service work like massaging to be able to do maybe a start-up, then I don't really have a choice.
Qn 2: I think the number of shopping malls is okay. I think people think like that because the amount of shopping malls makes us feel that we are spoilt for choices. Since my interests narrow down what I look at when I am at shopping malls, I do not have a problem of there being too many choices at one shopping mall. However, I think that sometimes the variety of shops available can be quite little. Perhaps that's just me, or maybe we can have more types of shops in shopping malls.

Planned response:
Do you think you would like to have a job working in a shopping mall? Why, or why not?
Ans: I would not want to have a job working in a shopping mall. The video shows masseurs giving massage in an open area and does not give the customers privacy, the public can watch them as they are being massaged, this makes me feel uncomfortable, due to the lack of privacy the customers have. Although working in a mall will be a good work experience, in my opinion, I might not have a good work experience. Personally, I do not like to physically attend to customers because I am not too good with strangers, I rather have a job where I do not need to interact with customers much. Thus making me not want to work in a mall since I might see these kinds of situations and feel bothered.

Part 1 (planned response):
No, I would not like to work in a shopping mall. In order to carry out responsibilities during my work properly, I need to be in a peaceful and vast space. However, in a shopping mall where countless people commute to for different activities like food or purchasing items, it will be hard to concentrate during work as the many people around will create a very loud, noisy and hence uncomfortable working space.

Apart from that, as seen in the video, the massage area looks cramped and it does not appear as a place with proper and high-quality equipment. As they are located in the centre of the shopping mall, it will mean that they will lack the facilities and amenities to do their work well.

i think i would not want to work in a shopping mall.
firstly, just like the video, it can be seen that to work in a shopping mall, you have to be very extrovert which i believe i do not fulfil the requirements. it would be very embarrassing to massage the customer in a public space that passerby can walk by and look at us. it is very intimidating and scary in my opinion.

furthermore, i believe the working environment in shopping mall is very bad. i would not wish to work in an environment where the customers could potentially verbally or physically assault and harass me. my dignity does not allow me to do as such. also, shopping mall is a very noisy environment, it would be noisy to work and will be very annoying to work in that environment.

lastly, the work at shopping mall, be it salesperson or customer service or anyone else, has a long working hour with less salary. i could not go out and take in fresh air for hours especially peak hours to refresh myself. this would also affect my mental stability and cause me to have mental issues.

henceforth and thus, i would not wish to work in a shopping mall due to its environment, work quality and the people.

Planned response
Yes, I would personally like having a job in a shopping mall. Firstly, this is because of the air-conditioning the mall provides. Having a job such as helping to massage customers, the air conditioning can help me stay cool under Singapore' scorching heat, and to also stay relaxed under the cool surroundings, despite the job being vigorous. Secondly, working as a monsieur would be a good experience for me, as I could be able to allow customers to relax after a hectic day of work, and yet I can stay cool and relaxed while helping them. However, I would not want to work in a shopping mall, specifically as a monsieur due to the need to have contact with the customers. This might make the customers feel uncomfortable as it is in the middle of the shopping mall, thus being a little awkward for others to watch me massage them in public. In my view, I would prefer to work as a Monsieur in a shop and not in the public area of a shopping mall, to protect the customer's privacy.

Spoken Interaction

Q1. Yes, I do think my parents and adults would share my views on working in a shopping mall. As working in a mall is a good start for me to have as a job, and the working conditions are comfortable too. It also interesting to see this generation having teenagers like me, who are interested in working in a mall, despite the many disturbance and awkwardness it might cause if the job is in the public space.
They may also share my views due to me wanting to try new jobs despite it not fitting my interest, such as being a Monsieur.

Q2. Yes, I do think we have too many shopping malls. In Singapore, many infrastructures are all offices and malls, so much that Singapore starts to lose its heritage. For example, the famous Chong Pang Market is getting rebuilt into a more modernised market, thus losing its old heritage of its famous wet markets. When I went to Malaysia, I noticed how developed Singapore is, that the heritage sites in Singapore are so much less as compared to Malaysia. Still, I do understand that Singapore would not be successful until this days without such malls, and due to the small space Singapore has, Singapore requires more malls and have to use up heritage areas to build infrastructures. Hence, I do feel that Singapore has too much malls.

Planned response:
I think I would not want to work at a shopping mall. When working at a shopping mall, many people who you do not know or work with you can see exactly what you are doing which to me is pretty creepy and uncomfortable. I also do not want to work at a shopping mall as usually working at a shopping mall means that I have to directly interact with the customers. This is worse than interacting with customers over phone or by text as when directly interacting with customers, when they are angry, they can not only emotionally insult but even physically insult. When interacting over phone or text, we can choose not to serve or listen to the customers when they are angry and start insulting us. Thus, I would prefer not to work in a mall to prevent any trauma from customers bad temper.

Spoken Interaction:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Planned response
Working in a shopping mall is a Nightmare. The thought of being free and just standing at the counter is quite convincing, but it may not be what it looks like to us. My uncle, who works at a shopping mall, has been sharing with me the struggles of working at a shopping mall. Firstly, having to work well with troublesome customers that demand impossible services, following the phrase "a customer's always right" and being rude to whoever they want. Secondly, the job's pay may not be as high as other jobs that we can aim for, so i would not put a shopping mall worker as a priority, but a backup plan. So no, i wouldn't want to work at a shopping mall

Spoken interaction
Q1.

Q2.

And by poor attitude, im meaning those that are really short-tempered and think really highly of themselves, i feel they are the toughest to deal with as it requires a lot of patience and mental capability to interact with such intolerable and frustrating customers.
In conclusion, i would not enjoy working in a shopping mall
