Brain blocking food

Unfortunately, the meals that we prefer eating before exams contain foods which block our brains. Firstly, we like eating cookies, cakes, muffins, chocolates, desserts and candies because we think they will help us focus more on our reading. However, these foods require added time and energy to digest them and they can make us feel heavy and sleepy, something we don't like during the exam period. Consuming too many sugary foods can have negative effects on our brain and can lead to cognitive decline, too. Secondly, white bread can block our brain because it contains many more carbohydrates than our body needs. It gives us only short-term energy and we may easily feel tired after a while. So we may have no mood for further studying. In the end, fried potatoes and generally the greasy foods have a lot of harmful substances for our health and they contain high amounts of fat. They don't do good to our memory and can make us less able to solve problems or to think wisely.

Beverages to drink or avoid

Before the exam period teenagers should be careful with what they drink. Some beverages are good for better concentration but others may block their brain abilities. Teenagers should choose drinks that help their brain, like tea or milk instead of drinks that contain alcohol. Especially a cup of green tea can give students the right amount of alertness before an exam. Also they should drink fresh juices, but not with added sugar, because that will make them unable to focus on their reading. They should avoid excess coffee, energy drinks and colas because these can make students feel nervous or dizzy or having headaches. But do you know that the best drink for better focus and hydration is plain water??? So teenagers can drink as much as they want!!

As we all know the most important concern of students is exams. It's important to say that some kinds of food are more suitable to eat before the period of exams or during them to boost brain than others. For example students should prefer fatty fish like salmons, cods and tunas that benefit their brain health and memory. In addition green leafy vegetables like broccoli, kale, spinach, cabbage and cauliflower help the brain to stay sharp. Also some specific fruits like blueberries, strawberries, bananas and apples can help students to think faster and have better performance. Furthermore walnuts, whole grains and eggs provide energy, improve concentration and brain activity. Finally if you eat a little dark chocolate before an exam you can feel alert and have better cognitive function.

Breakfast choices before an exam

It is very important to be careful on what we eat for breakfast before an exam as it may have its consequences. Firstly, instead of eating chocolate or sugary foods we should consider eating something healthier such as peanut butter with whole grain bread and dark chocolate so that our brain won't feel tired after a few hours and we will stay focused for longer periods. Another good breakfast choice could be porridge with fruit (bananas) and nuts or low-fat milk with whole grain cereals. Carrot sticks with cottage cheese or yoghurt can be an excellent choice! A good breakfast before taking exams can help us have better memory and better performance. It will keep us energetic, too!
