Almost all of Mexico lies in the South American plate. However, Mexico is a part of North America, along with Canada and the United States. Mexico's total area is 19,72,550 km², making it the world's 13th largest country by total area. It has coastlines on the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of California, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, the latter two forming part of the Atlantic Ocean. Moreover, Canada's border with the United States is the longest international land border in the world, stretching 8,891 km . In addition to the U.S., Canada shares a maritime boundary with Greenland. Canada is geologically active, having many earthquakes and potentially active volcanoes, notably Mount Meager massif, Mount Garibaldi, Mount Cayley massif, and the Mount Edziza volcanic complex. The volcanic eruption of the Tseax Cone in 1775 was among Canada's worst natural disasters, killing an estimated 2,000 Nisga'a people and destroying their village in the Nass River valley of northern British Columbia.
