I find it very interesting because for our entire semester we've talked about the representation of humans from past centuries and cultures. This photographer, born in South Africa, surely had an upbring knowing and learning about the native people of his land and continent, hence the clothing worn by the lady. What makes it interesting though, is that the woman represented is a white blonde woman. Why is it interesting? Because he uses this white woman wearing traditional african/black articles of clothing to represent how we could live one day, with the different cultures being combined together.

Again from the same collection as the previous one, this art work helps me make my point. This time he uses a white man, who we know to be from Portugal by the name of the picture. What's interesting, is how not only he took an attractive, well-built man, but why I believe he chose Portugal as his country. I regard as true that one of the reasons he chose Portugal, is thanks to the country's colonial past, where many of their colonies were african. The man maintains an European composure, but while wearing what we could call "ornaments" from the people they conquered. Putter wishes to create about these two different cultures coexisting and appropriating each other's costumes and traditions.

This last photo comes from a different collection than the previous ones. However, it maintains his effort to merge to extremes of two different people at a given time. If we take a look back at the colonialist period, we'd discover that the clothes the white man's wearing, is what africans wore naturally, before the arrival of the europeans. On the other side we have an african man wearing what could be a suit of european style from the 1800s. Putter is creating a parallel between how those two people from different continents, traditions, cultures chose to represent themselves. Since we talked so much about representation in class, I think it's a very coherent art work to what we've studied.
