         <description><![CDATA[<div>At the beginning of this project I was very confused. I had a hard time finding a good connection to make between our lab and our topic. Once I made two really good connections it moved much faster and the project all started to make more and more cense and everything started flowing. Reviewing mutations and genetics was the easiest part since we had already learned it. It was just a matter of reviewing and collecting the right information to put into the project. I think that our group actually worked very well together and we all put in work to get it done. We decided the work up evenly, had many group meetings and we were even able to help each other out with our parts. I really enjoyed organizing and designing the padlet as well as doing the project. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When I first started this lab, it was a bit challenging because I wasn't really sure of what to do. After some research and talking to peers I was able to understand it. I talked with my group to decide what our topic was going to be and we decided on The Secret Life Of a Scientists and engineers: Bruce Jackson. Then we discussed who was going to do what in the project and I did the Research Component part of it. My part of the project was kind of easy, all i really had to do was search up who he was and what he did as a living. I found out that he was a Professor and Head of the Biotechnology Programs at Massachusetts Bay Community College. Another fact is that his work focuses on how DNA in conjunction with other tools can help solve mysteries of ancestry, forensics and evolution. He played a huge part in science because of how he was&nbsp; able to do all of these things. I’m not going to lie, but doing this project was a little bit frustrating at times. I helped my other group members with some of their parts and it truly was confusing. Eventually we got through it but the lab we couldnt do because we still have no idea on how to do it. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When we first started this project, I was completely confused on how and what we had to do for the project. But over time with explanations and questions over the project&nbsp;helped me understand and believe the project was not difficult at all and could be an experience I share with my teammates. I liked doing this project as when there was more members to work with, it was less work to stress over. Overall, I thought this was an interesting project to complete, and my teammates did a good job completing it as well.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that the field trip that would coincide with our project. We could come in, and interview the different scientists and workers that work in the lab. We would ask about different variables they're experimenting on, their hobbies and  their outside lives. This museum also offers class field trips and even virtual labs and trips.they have a variety of biology and scientific labs and activities that we could do. The virtual labs include subjects like butterfly emporiums and studies on North American Mammals for younger grades and Earth studies and evolution trips for middle and high school students. This field trip would help students better understand topics like evolution. </div>]]></description>

In this lab we first built a phylogenetic tree with the nuclei.&nbsp; The cells of all animals, plants, and fungi have nuclei, which makes these organisms “eukaryotes.” The nucleus is where the DNA is stored.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For our project, the secret life of scientists by Bruce Jackson, His work focuses on how DNA ,in conjunction with other tools can help solve mysteries of ancestry, forensics and evolution. over years, he has been viewing how DNA has changed over time. In class, we view how DNA can have mutations. These mutations alter the DNA causing change. So when he views how DNA changes, he is also seeing the result of mutations happening.<em>With the viewing of the changes over the years, Bruce Jackson is able to see the evolution of animals and plants that can connect to humans.          <title> Making Connections - Linda Diaz</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Bruce Jackson is not just a scientist. Specifically, he is a forensics scientist. He uses DNA to trace and solve crimes, or mysteries. To source DNA, he uses Gel Electrophoresis. Scientist like him line up and insert strands of DNA, that has been dyed with </em>Ethidium bromide, <em>into wells carefully with a pipette. When the DNA is inserted into the wells, Scientists connect positive and negative charges to the sides of the gel electrophoreisis box. They cover the box and use UV rays to be able to detect and see the DNA after they have moved from the negative side of the box to the positive. After 1-1.5 hours later the DNA should have ran through the gel and should be visible to the naked eye. The DNA strands should be seperated from their lengths. Long strands are usually still at the top of the box while the shorter lengths are at the bottom. Scientists read these gels and see how other DNA strands are connected and related. We covered a short topic of Gel Electrophoresis, so we understand how Jackson does and operates his job. Over many years, he has been viewing how DNA has mutations that are randomly a disadvantage or an advantage. In our class, we studied how DNA has mutations. These mutations alter the DNA causing change. We know that mutation, being an advantage, can lead to variation over time. So Jackson sees how DNA changes, he is also seeing the result of mutations happening. I think it is interesting how a biology class is able to explore the topic a well known scientist like Bruce Jackson, does for a career. With comparing the changes of DNA over years, Bruce Jackson is able to see the evolution of animals and plants that can be connected and traced to humans. Scientists would use sources of fossils, genetic, and physical evidence to understand and recognise evolution. In our class, we learn how evolution happens to animals and plants to have better survival and fitness. That is what Bruce Jackson is able to see with the connections of tracing DNA, finding changes, and witnessing evolution.</em></div>]]></description>

Bruce is also an expert scuba diver and the founder of the Diving Buddies program, where he shares his love of diving with young children. Bruce Jackson is an Associate General Counsel for Microsoft where he currently supports the Global Sales, Marketing &amp; Operations (GSMO), U.S. Regulated Industries, Financial Services, Health and Life Sciences and Public Sector, Group. He began his career at Microsoft in 2000 as corporate counsel for the Digital Media Division. Our group worked very well together and this project helped me get a better understanding of genetics and evolution so much better. For my part, the field trip it was so fun for me plan a trip and make it look amusing. I enjoyed this project. </div>]]></description>
