Ghettos: Get-toes. a part of a city in which members of a minority group live, especially as a result of political, social, legal, environmental or economic pressure.

Warsaw: War-Saw. a city in Poland where a large Jewish ghetto was located.

Front Lines: Where the war was being fought.

Treblinka, Sobibor, and Auschwitz-Birkenau: Concentration camps where Jewish people were brought, forced to work, and often killed.

Poignant: Poy-knee-ant. Sad, regretful. 

Rabbi: Rah-bye. A Jewish faith leader; the Jewish version of a priest, pastor, or Imam.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising: The Warsaw Ghetto was a forced community of Jewish people in Poland during the Holocaust. During the Ghetto Uprising, which lasted over a month in 1943, Jews in the ghetto refused to be transported to death camps, engaging in warfare with Nazi guards, resulting in the deaths of around 13,000 Jewish people.

Auschwitz: Ow-sh-wit-z. A concentration camp in Poland where Jewish people were forced to live, work, and were killed.

Citation: Sye-tay-shon. An award or recognition for an act of heroism.
