What Does a Motivated Student=Athlete Look Like?

A student athlete will arrive on time looking ready to participate and will be able to: adapt to different situations, accept criticism, stay positive, encourage others, show leadership, take initiative, andwork towards self-improvement.

A motivated parent should:

-be child-focused, not self-focused

-give positive reinforcement

-be present to watch them "play" and not just "win"

-focus on the child learning

-understand that learning can result from failures

-develop a positive relationship with the coach or teacher

-become involved, volunteer to go the extra mile

-keep the complaining to a minimum

-give constructive feedback

So how can we motivate parents to do this?

-model good behaviour

-encourage parental volunteers

-develop positive relationships with parents

How can we motivate colleagues and parents?

-encourage parents/colleagues to get involved with the school with extra curricular
-encourage them to get involved with their child's life (ie. social media, computer use, homework help, sports teams
-when you to them, use descriptive language, show that you are passionate about what you're talking about
