I can really see the time and effort you and Sara put into the lectures. Everything is really well explained and you make it fun and engaging. I think the issue sometimes with classes that are engaging is that a lot of us are not used to it. We are used to sitting and listening to the professor, but your class definitely stands out with the Kahoot's, Say that Again and creating fun examples to engage the class. Keep doing what you are doing Paula :)

I truly admire all the clear effort you put into class lectures. They are so engaing that I don’t even feel I want to disengage on Pinterest or something because I am drawn to the class by all your avenues keeping us entertained. You are one of the best professors I’ve had in all my 4 years and it is because you care. So thank you so much Paula and Sara for keeping us engaged so we can better understand the material being taught. Never a dull moment in Paula’s classes! I also love how you wear your heart on your sleeve and are not afraid so share how inspired and moved you can become. Certainly makes me appreciate the content so much more! I am pledging to #participatemoreinmyeducation (#espeicallyinpaulasclasses)! Sorry for being one of the quite ones on Wednesday! If Paula can do it we can do it!

Paula is the reason I am being pushed to become a teacher. She inspires me by teaching and how she helps someone learn - whether that be through lecture material or life material. I enjoy how honest you are when it comes to lectures and how you will honestly say you haven't made the exam yet, but that you will share it with us the second you make it. And you do. Always. You're true to your word. You are quick to help anyone with anything and quick to help someone if their maybe a bit lost. I like the use of kahoot and I like can you say it again. I enjoy that you go over things from the previous class to help refresh my memory and help me remember it for study time. I find when I am reading my notes and studying I can easily think back to a class and remember what example you showed. This facilitates my image mind by learning better. I think some people aren't really aware of how much effort, work and time go into teaching. But then are the first ones to have a comment towards our education system. I think people need to become more aware, and as they do, it will give them personal advantage as well.

To facilitate more learning, you could do more talking amongst pairs or groups. Where each group then has to go around to say what they came up with. This may be a little consuming. However, it will facilitate more of an open connection with our peers and motivate students to talk because they'll have to share what they came up with. ALSO, I feel over time, maybe this strategy won't always have to be used. As students will become somewhat comfortable with talking to eachother by then, that students would then raise their hands and be more involved in the class.

You have such a passion for the material which makes you an amazing professor. I’ve never been more interested in studying until I took your class last semester lol. I think some of us, including me, have some anxiety so we have a hard time answering questions because we don’t want to stand out. Although, I understand you’re getting us ready for workplace situations where we’re going to have to interact with coworkers, which is good to get me out of my comfort zone. I agree with what someone said on here about getting together in groups and discussing the question together, then having one person from each group explain their answer. It might allow some of us to ease our way out of our anxiety. :) Thank you so much by the way for all you’ve done for us for this research project I know it takes a lot of time and effort and I really appreciate it!

Hi! I love using kahoot in class. I'm pretty competitive so it keeps me very engaged. I also love the format of the slides. There isn't too much content on each slide, and the colours/bold font/underline help me remember details.

As far as speaking in class...I'm so afraid of being wrong that I tend not to participate. Half the time I'll have the answer in my head and it's right, but I just don't have the confidence to say it. In the future I'm going to make more of an effort to participate and go out of my comfort zone :)

Although I understand that there is a lot of material to cover, Sometimes I find that we go through the lectures really quickly and it makes it hard to understand right away, however, this is why I love the say that again component of the class! Maybe half way through the lecture ask if there are any questions or repeat important material at the end of the class as a summary (take home messages). That would really help :) so far I really like the class, and I am looking forward to the rest!

I also like the idea of the Think, Pair, Share! Another idea: Sara did this in population health last semester where she incorporated real-life case studies where different groups in the class came up with ways to get different health organizations in Windsor more active on social media. In the following class we presented our ideas! In this class however, we could for example look at facilities or gyms in the area and come up with ways (in groups) to eliminate specific barriers for people with disabilities to help engage and empower them to be physically active. (This was something that the ODA failed to do: although they wanted to eliminate barriers, they did not tell facilities how to do so or how many to eliminate). I think something along those lines will get the class engaged in a way that relates to the class and gets people thinking of real world examples.
Let me know what you think :)

I feel as if I’m a slow learner in every class. No matter how good the prof is or how easy the material being taught is, I can’t fully grasp the information that’s being taught in the lecture until after I go home and look at the information myself. For this reason it’s very difficult to participate openly in class because every answer I think of is always wrong. The Kahoot! is very helpful because we can review things the next class after I’ve gone over them myself and fully understood them. I don’t know how difficult Mentimeter is to use and I know it would be more work and time but, a suggestion for more participation might be to put your main participation questions in there. Especially for the activity we did with the photo coding. Then the results of what the entire class thinks could be displayed on the board. I think this would be beneficial because 1, at least there’s some sort of participation and 2, if I think of a certain answer and the 3 people participating in the oral discussion have a different viewpoint, I’m not going to want to discuss my answer and be the only one that’s different and potentially wrong. At least with the mentimeter we could see that other people may share our views on the answer and it might encourage us to then share our reasoning out loud because we won’t feel so alone.

I have really been enjoying this class so far. Although the content is a lot, I know it's worth it for what I'm learning. And I truly appreciate the chance for publishing an actual research paper. I hope our group has what it takes. I'm definitely taking your adulthood class next year and would be interested in engaging in a conversation about bathroom accessibility for people who are transgender and people with children in the Human Kinetics building at some point.

I like your approach; honest, authentic, but person-person. Something I think would be a great addition though is a five minute break in the middle of class or maybe the music in the middle of class? I have a hard time sitting around during lectures and a short break helps me regain that focus. Also, a good way to get other people to participate is to spread out questions. I know more answers then I contribute to because I don't want to be constantly answering; it's awkward. Maybe giving people more positive feedback for answering when they do. Also, making your own nicknames on kahoot is fun, though I guess I could see why not :p

Honestly I love the structure of the class. The material is presented in a logical and building manner which really helps me grasp concepts.
I enjoy kahoot because it gives the class a taste of what your questions will look like, and allow for review that is not technically on my own time (I have very little so I really appreciate when profs make exercises like kahoot). That little jolt in my memory and the ability to apply and work with what we learnt the last class really helps ground the information.
Your incorporation of videos is also really helpful, as it helps create another piece to tie my knowledge to making it easier to remember.
