Here is news from Monica, our Dean of College and Career Readiness.
She has been visiting sites. She had good things to say about the instruction she saw. She could tell you guys were really engaged with your students. She liked the diversified methodology, pairs and group work that she saw.

There are some things that she has observed that need tweaking.

I know that students sometimes drift in. She has asked that we begin teaching on time. If you have one or two students in the chairs. So be it. It will send a message to the students if you are consistent... I'M GOING TO MISS SOMETHING IF I AM NOT HERE ON TIME.

She asked that we be aware that if we are using more than one sign in sheet, it could be interpreted badly by an auditor.....so stick to one, and be creative about how to ID the new students...ask them to sign in a different color or to highlight their names, or ...whatever works for you that won't raise red flags.

ALSO our use of public school computers is going to need to stop. We have a relationship to preserve. YES, some of you are employees of both Wake Tech and WCPSS, but when you are with us, you aren't on their time. We need to respect that.

Process for GED sign-ups:

Although our goal is to move students through our program as quickly as possible, it is also our responsibility to prepare students to achieve their goals.

As the 2002 GED test is scheduled to close-out in December 2013, students need to be aware of testing limitations and the consequences of not passing their final test by that time.

In addition, it is our responsibility to ensure that students are 110% capable of passing all five of the subject area tests before they are signed up for the third or final opportunity to test in any one subject area.

At this point in time we are working to compose a letter for students to sign, acknowledging that they are aware of the consequences of failing a third or final attempt to pass a subject area test.

Until that time, please delay signing any student up for their third or final test until they are fully prepared.

If a student is adamant about signing up for their third test before the fall, that student should discuss the situation with the site supervisor, the Director or Assistant Director of ABE/GED, and with the Dean.
