Scientific literacy is more than just being able to understand scientific writings. It is about, being able to find reliable sources, and to be able to draw conclusions from what you have read. You are able to use your background science knowledge to pick through incorrect sources, and you are then able to take in new and correct information that may or may not confirm your old ideas.

Scientific literacy is about being able to read or learn about a scientific topic with an open mind. Being able to change our minds based on scientific research goes along with science being dynamic and ever changing. This scientific research needs to come from credible research and done without bias. MT

Scientific literacy is how we think. When we look at the world with wonder, we have to use that to determine the facts. We cannot have a confirmation bias - where we seek out information that supports what we want (or *need) to be true. Through questioning everything, we cannot believe one source or even a few. Just as we tell students that repeated trials are needed in an experiment, we have to seek out information from multiple, legitimate sources.
