Waking up and seeing this sunrise out my bedroom door, I walked out on to balcony, looking over the neighbourhood. Taking in the fresh air, feeling the warmth in the breeze and listening to the birds begin to wake. Making a coffee and taking it to my balcony sitting and taking in all the sounds and the calmness after hurricane like weather.

There was a slight warm breeze blowing in waves, making the trees slightly move. The rays of the sun shining up in to the sky. Birds were chirping in a cheerful manner. The sky was shining with a range of colours as the dark of the night was disappearing and the light of a brand-new day shining through.

Some of the birds sounded close, some seeming to be in the trees along the riverbank nearby. The light humming sounds of traffic could be heard while enjoying my coffee.

As the sun rose higher, the birds were becoming louder, and you could see them starting to fly around the riverbank and over the house.

There was a young girl who's name was Jodie, she moved out of her family home to live by herself, living ever so close to her Nan, wanting to become more independent, but not to far from her Nan. Jodie moved in next to her Nan. Each and every morning Jodie would walk over to her Nan's house early in the morning, approaching her Nan's verandah just before the sunrise each day. Sitting on the verandah her Nan would walk out with a nice warm drink for them to share in as the sat together watching on as the sun would rise.

As time went on, Jodie expressed her love for the sunrise's and their special memories to her Nan, when they decided they would watch a couple of sunsets together as well.

This became a ritual for them also. Relaxing after a big day running around at work, Jodie would find herself always enjoying the sunset with her Nan and starting her new day watching the rising sun.

Many happy memories were created as they sat and watched on, watching the different colours created in the sky, the different sounds mornings would sound to the sounds of the evenings.

Listening to the chirpiness of the birds in the morning, welcoming a brand-new day, to listening to the birds fluffing their feathers while in their nest, in the nearby trees ready to settle in for the night.

Jodie, always starts her day relaxed and full of love and ready for the day sharing her happiness and calmness around to all. Enjoying her day and always looking forward to spending the last moments of each day with her special best friend, her Nan as they sit on the porch watching the sunset.

This video I have filmed was filmed at my house. Waking up to a beautiful sunrise I took the moment in recording the sound and enjoying a cup of coffee, while I sat and listened to the sounds and watching the colour of the sky change minute by minute.

The amount of different bird noises amazed me, I had only ever thought it was a flock of the same birds living in the trees near the river bank. The sounds each bird was making sounded different. I was surprised to hear the faint sound of the highway.

My creative response was taken from my young memories of my sister and my late Nan, always enjoying the sunrises together and after my sister moved next door it became a ritual of watching the sunrise and sunset together. Building the special unbreakable bond between them. Although the ending was not the same my sister is always watching the sunrise's and sunsets, now with her own children and creating those memories with them each and every day.

While in the workforce, it would be amazing to see educators and alike, being able to sit back and listen/watch, what is happening around them. So much is missed within each and everyday. Many milestones missed and events in which can be discussed with families at the end of each day. Aiding in those relationships with parents/ caregivers.

While thinking about the different sounds the birds were creating bought me back to the video we watched during class about the Mutton Birds. (Bangarra Education Resources Mutton Bird, 2024)

Another moment during class that stuck out was after watching the difference between hearing and listening by Pauline Oliveros.

"Find a tree and sit under it for some time, as long as you feel" (Oliveros, 2015) being one of her very own compositions.

Reading this under the video within the university site, this has resonated with me and my creative story/ real life. In needing to take time to take a moment in being able to sit and watch/listen to their surroundings within work life and home life.
