I grew up with my mom, grandma, and my nana making pozole whenever it would get cold or for Christmas, the same goes for tamales, they would make caldo de res whenever I got a sore throat.

I grew up with grandma and my nana making me some huevos con salchichas, tortilla con huevo y jamón con huevo.

90’s rap because of my dad, oldies because of both of my parents, Chicano rap because of my mom, RNB because of both of my parents, corridos because of my grandpa.

Dolls, drums, pianos, a lot of Elmo toys, doll houses.

My cousins playing with anything we could find or using our imagination and sometimes we would pretend that we were youtubers making videos of makeup tutorials, building forts, or just laughing hyper on too much sugar.

Tias and Tios that cared about me and made me laugh, happy, and smile

I grew up with family friends, my dad’s friends that would care for me and would take me to the park so I could play when my dad couldn't. Or when my dad would be hauled into jail they would distract me from what would be going on and would buy me ice cream and play with me.

I am from where i would hear 

 “ si no te portas bien el cucuy te va agarrar” or if i wasn't behaving in a store that we were in they would say “ si no te portas bien ese senora/senor te va yevar” and i hear what me and my brother say every morning before school “ gracias diosito por darme un otro dia de vivier mande helito sobre mi padre me cuiden y me vaya bien al escuala amen”

When I was little I dreamed about being an actor, psychologist, lawyer, and therapist.

I've seen my dad get arrested, me and my cousins get catcalled.

I am from where I want to be something successful so I can help my parents with everything like their financial bills and help with my brothers for school.

I am from where I want to be successful so I can get a house for my parents and I want to clear all my grandparents bills so my grandpa can retire.

My future sounds like it’s far away and will take forever to accomplish

but it will all work out in the end and it will come sooner than I think 

I can imagine myself being a nurse in the hospitals when people need help

Helping the people that need care coming to me and calling me their nurse feels like a dream

Seeing the faces on my family when I graduate nursing school and get a certificate

The feeling of accomplishment sounds sweet when I think about it

As I'm writing this I picture my future life 

The idea of my ideal man calling me his wife

The thought of getting to plan my life

Flying around to the countries I want to see

Doing good in school so all of this can pay off

Being able to create my future 

So I’d better take up all my time and dedication to have the future I want

Atlhough it might take time and be difficult to do all of this I must believe in myself and that God has a plan for me in life.
