         <description><![CDATA[<p><em>Lesson Concepts:</em><p>*Following Listening Rules helps everyone learn</p><p>*Your brain gets smarter every time it works hard.</p><p><em>Key Words: </em><strong>Listening, Rules, Respect</strong></p><p><em>Objective: </em>Students will be able to:</p><p>*name and demonstrate Listening Rules</p><p>*Apply attention, memory, and inhibitory skills during brain building games</p><p><em>Materials: </em>Puppet, Listening Rules Cards</p><p><em><strong>Lesson:</strong></em></p><p><em>Warm-Up: </em>Have
 students play "My Turn, Your Turn". Teacher names and touches two body 
parts. Students wait until teacher says "Your Turn" and touches the same
 two body parts. Repeat.</p><p><em>Lesson:</em></p><p>1. Use the puppet to model each of the Listening Rules:</p><p>*Eyes watching (point to eye)</p><p>*Ears listening (cup hand to ear)</p><p>* Voice quiet (finger to mouth)</p><p>*Body still (Hug body)</p><p>Have students repeat each rule as you say them out loud.&nbsp;</p><p>2. Have students look at a photo of someone listening. Students identify which Listening Rules the person in the photo is using.</p><p>3. Use the Listening Rules Cards to review.</p><p>4.
 Play "My Turn, Your Turn" with the Listening Rules. Say the rule and 
have the students model the action. Then model the action and have the 
students repeat the rule.</p><p><em>Wrap Up:</em></p><p>&nbsp;Ask students to show you what they look like when they are following the Listening Rules</p></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><em>Lesson Conce</em>p<em>ts:</em><p><em>*</em>Thinking about how others want to be treated and treating them that way helps you be respectful.</p><p>*Being respectful helps you learn.</p><p><em>Key Words: </em><strong>Respect, behavior</strong></p><p><em>Objectives</em>:
 Students will be able to identify respectful behavior in themselves and
 others; and determine respectful responses to scenarios.</p><p><em>Materials: </em>Sing and Step CD, Chart paper and markers.</p><p><em>Warm-Up: </em>Pair
 students to use "Think, Turn, Tell". Model for class by picking a 
students and have you both think about a questions (ie. What is respect)
 and then take turns sharing their responses. Partner A turn to Partner B
 and answers question and then they switch roles. Ask each pair to think
 about what respect means to them and share. Have a few pairs share 
their ideas.</p><p><em>Lesson:</em></p><p>* have students look at a 
photo and see if they can spot respectful behavior. Have them share 
their ideas with their partner (Think, Turn, Share). Have some pairs 
share their ideas.</p><p>*Have students think of one thing they do to 
behave respectfully and share with partner (Think, Turn, Share). Make a 
list of things respectful learners do.</p><p>*Have students role play certain scenarios:</p><p>1. You need to borrow a pencil.</p><p>2. A classmate drops a water bottle on the floor.</p><p>3. You want to ask a question during a lesson.</p><p><em>Wrap-Up</em></p><p>Remind students of what they learned about respect:</p><p>*What respect means</p><p>*What respect looks like.</p><p>* How respect can help you be a better learner.</p><p>Listen to the song "Be a Learner" and raise your hand when you hear the word respect.</p>
