Survival meaning that the person does not give up and does not let the fact that they are not stable get in their way of achieving there goal. In the text its states "I would sneak out into the bathroom to study or the hallway." This shows that she is a Survivalist because she does not give up no matter what she gets her work done. The text also states that she would "wake up at 4am and takes 3 buses to get to her school." Williams is motivated because she wanted to get out of the shelter and go to school and learn to accomplish her feat of going to Harvard University. “No matter how nice your shelter is, you never feel safe, and all you see around you are people who are down on their luck. It’s not that kind of atmosphere that makes you think big. Books helped me escape all of that.”  Williams wanted to go to school to escape the miserable tone that was set for her. Williams is also motivated because school has changed her and is a new world to Khadijah. “ But for Khadijah, school was a refuge, a reminder that outside the shelter was a world filled with possibility.” Khadijah wanted to pass and went to school like it was a different side of her against the other.  On the other hand the theme could be, being determined.  Khadijah is determined to go into Harvard and pass classes to get there. “ But I had to make up the subjects I’d missed at a community college, so for a while I was doing that along with high school. By eleventh grade i was take honors and AP classes.” Williams has worked hard to get to where she is and wanted to go past her limits. Williams also studied hard, she studied on the bus and had to break rules in the shelter. “ She’d balance her books on her lap and do her homework on the bus. What is the theme that is developed throughout A Homeless Girl's dream. The theme is that the love of a parent can affect their child's life. In the text it state "She said as long as I did my best she would be proud of me." Khadijah has taken a test and she got a really good score but the school thought it was an error because she missed too much classes but her mom told her that things are fine and Khadija promised to try her best, Khadijah tried to her best and that brought her to Harvard university. In the text it states "Months later, on a warm spring day, Khadijah is dressed in crimson-colored Harvard sweats and a white T-shirt with her braids pulled up in a ponytail." by keeping her promise she is now attending Harvard university which is a good universities in america.
