The supply chain of Zara’s fashion is an excellent illustration of the integrated marketing mix in the context of the fast fashion industry competitive advantage which consists of product price, place and promotion.

On product, Zara's ability to offer to the market relevant items in 2-3 weeks after conception is due to its integrated supply chain , which allows it to produce and ship fashion items as required by trends. Their limited editions strategy means minimal waste in inventory while enhancing value. When it comes to price, Zara ensures its styles are cheap and of good quality due to their competent supply chain that keeps production costs low.

Place is equally important since Zara's merger-offered centralized logistics hub enables to resell new collections within 24 to 48 hours allowing two weekly inventory renewals. These constant and timely payments enable a hassle-free experience of access to the most recent goods in store.

Last but not least, there is one commodity Zara does not use for sale promotions and that is advertising, thanks to the chain, which builds its buzz through new products or items which are not frequently obtained, making customers having to go to stores to buy more.

This infographic depicts the marketing mix that Zara applies over a period of time by including a design to delivery process cycle of 2-3 weeks, a map showing the logistics hubs of Zara around the globe and a bar graph reflecting the difference between the time taken to complete the process by Zara and the industry. These parameters illustrate how the supply chain of Zara efficiently supplements the marketing mix in order to create value for the customers.

Zara gives us an example of how the marketing mix is used to address client needs and world ecological problems with their approach towards sustainability.

Zara has also launched 'Join Life'collection that offers clothing made from more environmentally friendly materials, such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and sustainable lyocell. Such products have arrived due to the imminent need for sustainable fashion from consumers while allowing Zara to pursue their eco-friendly goals in the long run.

On the price aspect, the company remains competitive in pricing for its most targeted market without pricing itself too high with sustainable options.

Place forms an intricate part of Zara’s eco-friendly because with current over 60 % of stores already eco-efficient and the rest targeted for completion by 2030. Also, it includes offline collection points for used clothing and other items which are linked to the brand’s circular economy enables the consumers to do their part in the brand’s efforts. Promoting sustainability is a great opportunity, as Zara, for example, uses its efforts in this area to strengthen its brand image, promotes environmental campaigns and makes sound promises to consumers, such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.

This infographic demonstrates the marketing mix of sustainability used by Zara using a pie chart comprising the sustainable fibres incorporated in the ‘Join Life’ line collection, a timeline chart highlighting the carbon neutrality objectives and eco-friendly symbols reiterating Zara’s green vision. All together, it illustrates how Zara balances profitability and sustainability in business by applying the marketing mix and eco-friendly approaches.
