This stage begins at birth and lasts until approximately 18 months. Infants will develop a sense of trust or mistrust depending on if the care they have received is dependable and consistent. I feel I was given the proper care and attention during this stage in my own life so I feel I have a sense of confidence about others because of that.

This is the second stage in Erikson's development theory and it begins at 18 months and lasts until about 3 years of age. In this stage as the child becomes more independent in their mobility by walking around on their own, doing tasks such as cleaning their toys up, or even dressing themselves. I think my parents must have not given me as much independence as I needed because I still as an adult like to have someone else with me when I go out and do things rather than do them alone.

This is the third stage in Erikson's development theory and it begins around three years of age and ends around five years of age. During this stage, children begin learning to play with other children and make up their own games or play. This stage is where children develop their ability to become a leader and gain confidence in their ability to make decisions. Children began asking many questions at this stage and how the questions are handled determines how a child interacts with others. If the questions are treated as trivial the child will feel embarrassed or annoyed. I personally feel that my parents had to have answered my questions as though they were trivial because I interact with others very little because I don't want to come across as delinquent or annoying.

This is the fourth stage in an individual's development and occurs around age five and ends about age twelve. At this stage in a child's life school life begins to become more influential on them. As they began to try and show their competence in specific categories to their peers or adults if they are encouraged or not will give them the confidence in the abilities they need. When a child struggles to develop skills their peers have it gives them a sense of inferiority. I feel I was very encouraged during this stage as I am confident in my abilities when I put my mind to things.

This stage of development is where an individual starts gaining more independence and begins to develop their identity and find their role in society. I feel I struggled to find my role in society and was confused for a while until I was about 19 years old when I discovered what career I wanted to follow.

This stage is the sixth in an individual's development and occurs between the ages of 18 to 40 years old. In this stage, individuals began to become more intimate in the relationships they develop even committing to more long-term relationships. Failing to be committed in relationships can lead to isolation and even depression in one's life. So far in life I have had the same relationship since my freshman year of high school so I feel I am very committed.

This is the seventh stage in development and occurs around ages 40 to 65. We feel we are doing our part in society by going to work, raising our kids to be a helpful part of society, and giving back to our communities. If an individual fails to contribute to society they become stagnant and feel uninvolved or a waste of space. I am not at this stage yet but I feel I really want to have children and raise them the best I can. I already give back to my community by volunteering to coach youth basketball and by teaching children at a school in our community.

This is the last stage in a person's development and occurs from around age 65 till death. In this stage, people often look back on their lives and either feel guilty or unaccomplished about how they lived or they feel complete and whole about how they lived. Living an unaccomplished life leads to despair while feeling complete about your life gives you a sense of integrity. I have yet to be in this stage of life and so far have not looked back much at my accomplishments because I haven't been able to accomplish much yet.
