En este contexto, las universidades del siglo XXI enfrentan el desafío de adaptarse a los rápidos cambios de las nuevas generaciones de estudiantes, principalmente las generaciones Y (Millennials) y Z. Si bien se asume que los jóvenes poseen una mayor capacidad de autoaprendizaje en línea, la investigación muestra que es crucial equiparlos con las habilidades necesarias para ser productivos en el ámbito laboral, lo que convierte a la alfabetización digital en una prioridad para las instituciones educativas. En este sentido, herramientas como blogs y redes sociales, aunque a menudo se utilizan con fines sociales, pueden servir como recursos pedagógicos valiosos para dotar a los estudiantes de competencias digitales que logren un aprendizaje continuo y actualizado. Aunque existen barreras para su integración, estas plataformas son útiles para apoyar a los profesores en la enseñanza de habilidades de comunicación y gestión de la información, además de destacar la importancia de la privacidad y la ética en la interacción con pacientes. Por ello, el uso de edublogs y redes sociales podría ser una estrategia efectiva para mejorar la educación y formación de futuros profesionales de la salud, ya que fomentan un aprendizaje colaborativo y la creación de contenidos.
