         <description><![CDATA[<div>Some stayed with harsh , disrespectful and ungrateful adults who only wanted them as slaves.<br>Some children were sent back to the Billeting Officer for being scruffy, having headlice  or wetting the bed.<br>Some families had evacuees who they cared for and loved.<br>Evacuees went to country areas where no bombs fell.<br>Some stayed in small towns,villages and farmhouses.<br>Most evacuees went to Lancashire , Sussex and Yorkshire.<br>Some even ended up going abroad.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>2 or 3 children slept in 1 bed and others underneath the bed if no room.<br>Many evacuees were billeted in cottages with no electricity only oil lamps .<br>Others found themselves in larger houses with hot running water but feared  they'd  drown.<br>Many had never seen a cow or a sheep, and did not realise were milk, eggs or butter came from.<br>The children sent regular postcards home, they wrote about the house, their bedroom and the family they lived with.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The women's voluntary service would organise the forthcoming  evacuation.<br>Mothers and their young children waited at Victoria station to be evacuated out of the city.<br>210,000 children were evacuated by the beginning of August.<br>Some children who stayed behind in London during the Blitz were made just homeless when their houses were bombed.<br>They evacuated women, children and ill people. <br>Everyone,including women and children,were issued with gas masked in case gas -filed bombs were dropped during the war.<br>Every household received a leaflet entitled evacuation-why and how?, explaining how evacuation would work.<br>Everyone including women and children, were issued with gas-masks.<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Some children had their heads shaved if they had headlice.<br>People would get money for looking after a child.<br>Clean and pretty girls are likely to be chosen quickly.<br>Older boys are also chosen first because they can work on the farms.<br>Brothers and sisters are often separated because many families only have room from one child.<br>When they arrived they were tired, hungry and scared.<br>They all stood against a wall while grown -ups stare at them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Most children were sent into the countryside for safety , often to live with complete strangers.<br>They included babies,toddlers and school added children.<br>For some children evacuation was a great adventure but for others it was bewildering.<br>They wore name labels, carried a bag , gas mask and often a favourite toy.</div>]]></description>
