Grading and offering feedback can be extremely time-consuming, and yet both are vital parts of teaching. Google Classroom immediately came to mind when I chose to include grading and feedback in this statement. It has rubrics and options to offer feedback automatically, as well as automatic grading capabilities. I anticipate using Google Classroom often, and I know the grading tools will be extremely helpful.

The educational climate today continues to be characterized by diversity. This is beautiful! With this reality comes a challenge, though. There are many students whose native language is not English. These students may know a little English, be fluent, or may not know any English at all. Tools like Talkpal AI will be extremely useful for students who do not know English, and for teachers who want to learn their students' native languages. It claims that one will learn a language five times faster when using it, and there are more than fifty-seven languages one can learn on it.

It is difficult to predict the effect AI will have in the classroom. Will the benefits outweigh the challenges? AI use will hopefully help students to see the pricelessness of the creative potential we humans possess. Let's say I have students write a close reading on a poem from the Modernist era of American Literature. They will brainstorm, draft, conference, peer edit, revise, and submit. Once they have submitted, we will have ChatGPT write a close reading on a poem from that era and discuss its strengths and weaknesses. My hope is that through this, students will see that something produced by AI does not have the human touch that is so vital to good writing. One can tell that there is not heart behind the words, no individuality, no distinctive beauty that denotes a real person. This would be a great benefit of using AI in the classroom. A challenge I anticipate is the temptation to use it to cheat, and to use it for everything, forgetting about that singular human beauty that separates robotic work from work of the heart.

A teacher should keep his or her introduction to AI specific to the grade and maturity level of his or her students. The way that I would introduce AI in the classroom is different than the way a K-5 teacher or a Middle School teacher would introduce it. I will ask my students if they have an experience with AI and base my introduction off their response. Some segments of my AI presentation would not change, like my exhortation not to cheat, to ensure that any interaction with AI begins with you and ends with you, and my discussion of how we will use it in class. I will hop onto ChatGPT or MagicSchoolAI and look at some of the features with my students. Perhaps I will ask ChatGPT to respond to a prompt or write an argumentative essay. How a respective teacher will present AI depends on that teacher's content area, the students' exposure level to AI, and the grade level of the students.

AI skills are becoming more and more in demand in this day and age. It is pretty much impossible to search the web without running into some sort of AI. The same goes for the work force. Many companies are utilizing AI to perform various tasks, so it makes sense that employers are looking for people who are AI literate.

• Do not trust the AI. Always assume it is wrong unless/until you know the information it offers is correct, or you have already done research on the topic which confirms the information.

• Generative AI is a tool. Ethical and responsible use of AI necessitates its use as a tool, and nothing else. AI does not have the capability to create. It only pulls from what the internet offers it. You have the God-given ability to create. Use it! Don't waste it by trying to create with AI.
