IACP strategies promote deep and engaging critical thinking and analysis by providing new and compelling ways to look at history and our contemporary world. 

• Change Analysis Strategies: 

  • How do we understand obstacles and challenges to our democracy? (Problem Analysis)

  • Where and how is power expressed to bring about social and political change? (Expressions of Power, Locations of Power)

  • Who is impacted by, and who can influence, governmental policies? (Stakeholder Analysis)

  • How can communites and individuals advocate for their rights? (Strategize, Take Action)

• Historical Analysis Strategies: IACP includes select pedagogies and resources developed by the UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project, and others, to engage in deep historical thinking and analysis.

Objectives:

• Review methods and strategies for teaching social studies through music as a primary source of information.

• Explore teaching models based on the use of music as a means of learning.

• Develop ideas for curricular integration in teaching historical empathy and cultural identity expression through music.

• the 21st-century skills of collaboration, cooperation, and consensus-building; 

• an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship; and 

• knowledge on the roots of our democracy.
