An example i can give would be my 4 year long toxic relationship where i was emotionally and mentally manipulated. This caused me to be so stressed out that my parents, teachers, friends, and even strangers were able to tell something was stressing me out.

When my ex was upset or started a fight i would instantly feel a rush of adrenaline and feel the need to hide away because i couldnt handle her screaming and yelling at me. This is where the stress chemicals would enter the body and usually make me not eat and lose my appetite and grow very tired for the whole day.

Eventually i got used to the screaming and yelling and it wasnt as bad halfway through the day and eventually halfway through the relationship. This would be when my body leveled out and built the defense against her but then i suffered from school and work stress more than ever and never had energy.

Lastly either before going to bed and near the end of relationship I entered the stage of exhaustion. I would feel drained and have nothing else in me but in doing so i would develop son emotional and behavioral signs. These included,
Emotional: Anxiety about whether or not she would hate me or blame herself and kill herself like she threatened on a daily basis, irritability to everyone and everything, and always mentally tired.
Behavior: self-destructive behaviors and neglect for my well being, and trying to hide away and disappear.
