4. How do the meaning and impact of a literary text change over time?  The meaning impacts literary text changes over time based on events going on at the time. For example, Hughes' text is based on racial discrimination in the 1920s, changing its meaning today.
5. How do literary texts reflect, represent, or form a part of cultural practices?  The texts reflect a form of cultural practices, by using allusions to historical figures, showing the change in cultural practices.

1. How does the structure or style of a literary text affect meaning? Consider how Morrison's stream-of-consciousness, shifting points of view, and use of analepsis and prolepsis impact the meaning of the novel. Morrison's use of structure through a stream of consciousness gives the text a new purpose, implementing the way that thoughts naturally flow, giving it a sense of realism and natural organization. Along with that, the shifting points of view give the novel a sophisticated stance, by considering all perspectives. Analepsis and prolepsis are used once again to give the novel a natural flow, showing the way that trauma is non-linear.

Consider the story of Margaret Garner, the Fugitive Slave Act, and other historical and cultural phenomena and how that has impacted the creation and reception of Beloved. Cultural or historical context is very important to the reception of a literary text as it provides an understanding for the reader. For example, without historical context, once might not understand the reasoning behind Sethe killing her child.

1. How does Chronicle offer insight into Columbian culture? Consider what we've learned about with machismo, marianismo, honor and the impact of colonialism. It offers insight into Colubian culture through the insightful illustration of machismo and marianismo stereo types within a society and how it affects men and women. We also the themes of familial honor, and the way that men were expected to uphold it. We also see the common theme of the importance of religion throughout the book as religion was very stressed and important within Columbian Society.

I have not used The Things They Carried, Persepolis, Hughes Poetry, Chronicle, The Stranger, etc.

I think Persepolis and The Things They Carried connect very well through the ability of political unrest to shift the morals of those living through it. This can be seen in Persepolis through the shift in Satrapi's morals as she becomes a bystander in an unjust society, as does Winston.

"If you want us to incriminate ourselves in any other way, we are ready" (Orwell 170). This shows the willingness to lie in order to just be "against the regime"

"Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past" (Orwell 44). Shows the true corruption of the regime.
