Week 2 Connla’s Wave

Directed by Bryan Burroughs, our new show is the reworking of one of the lesser-known tragedies of the Ulster Cycle. The story of how Cuchulainn’s only son came to be and how he met his tragic end.

‘Connla’s Wave’ uses physicality, dance and movement to explore the other world as music and soundscape design enliven the experience.

Our storyteller, Fintan Mac Bóchra, is the oldest and wisest man in Ireland. Unable to die, he dreams himself into a new existence every time he thinks he is coming to his end. Now he dreams himself into a new story. But is it to prove a point? To teach the wisdom of old? Or to find his way to some wounded peace?

Two people go for a walk on a sacred hill of Ireland; they did not know they could evoke one of the God like folk. They did not know this story had to be told.
Candlelit Tales have been working with Irish Myths for over 5 years, evoking responses such as this:

“Oh, how they tell their tales, how they spin their yarn! The first time I ever heard them, they had me catching my breath in suspense, laughing and crying.”

Now we turn our expertise in storytelling into theatre, and present Candlelit Theatre’s brand new show.

So what happens if a ship decides to sail herself?

Cartwheeling into the fabric of space-time, Navigate reshapes the universal feeling of being an outsider. Shadow puppets, movement and soundscape construct the fantastic journey of a mysterious pirate captain off the edge of the world and into the strangeness of being foreign in unknown waters.

Launched through a 2018 artistic residency in Barcelona, this physical theater piece uses music and magic to explore what it is to move through the world as a woman alone.

https://m.facebook.com/Navigate.SarahStearns/

www.sarahstearns.com

Video promo of the show: https://youtu.be/bFCUuUpgq9A

#GalwayTheatreFest

Navigate Read/Watch List

Navigate pulls from the depths of the ocean- my fear of deep water, my fascination with 18th century pirates and my time working on cruise ships- and pushes against the fabric of space- time.
