Petruchio enters the cafe, he looks around before at the Waiter.

Petruchio: “Waiter! I demand a table for two. My partner will be here shortly.”

Waiter: “Well, the cafe is going to close in 15 minutes, is that alright with you?”

Petruchio: “Yes, that’s fine. My table?”

Waiter: “Follow me.”

The Waiter leads him to a table for two. And gestures for him to sit down.

Waiter: “A table for two. Would you like something to drink in the meantime?”

Petruchio: “Yes, I want a beer.”

Waiter: “Alright one beer coming up shortly.”

The Waiter walks away. Meanwhile The merchant has finally arrived. The merchant looks around before smiling and walking up to Petruchio.

The merchant: “Ah, Petruchio, you’re on time.”

Petruchio: “Finally, I’ve been waiting for ages.”

The merchant sits down and puts the suitcase on the table. The Waiter walks up and gives Petruchio a beer.

Waiter: “For you.”

Petruchio: “Yeah, yeah.”

Waiter walks away, and he drinks the beer before continuing.

Petruchio: “Is that the diamond for my sweet Kate?”

The merchant: “Yes, it is. 5000 crowns and it is yours.”

Petruchio: “5000?! You said it was only 4!”

The merchant: “Well, it was, but time changes and so do demands”

Petruchio: “I’ve travelled all the way from Verona just for a scammer to raise the price?!”

The merchant: “Unfortunately, yes. Take it or leave it.”

Petruchio: “How dare you try scam me?!”

Waiter intervenes.

Waiter: “This is a cafe, not a fight club. Can your lower your tone?”

Petruchio: “I decide what I do! Stay out of it, Hor-... rrrendous Waiter!”

Waiter shrugs it off.

Petruchio grabs his beer and chugs it down in one go.

Waiter leaves and just gets back to cleaning.

Petruchio sighs irritated.

Petruchio: “Listen, all I want is for you to revert the price back to the original.”

The merchant: “No I won’t. Sorry, but the price stays the same.”

Petruchio: "Order yourself something to drink, and reconsider. I'm not playing games with you."

The merchant: "Waiter!"

Waiter stops cleaning and walks up.

Waiter: "You called me, sir?"

The merchant: "Yes, I'd like a coffee, no milk."

Waiter: "Alright, anything with it?"

The merchant: "No, just a coffee."

Waiter: "Alright, I'll be back shortly."

Waiter walks back to the bar and prepares the coffee.

Petruchio sighs, calming down slightly.

Petruchio: "Listen, I just want the diamond for my wife, nothing else."

The merchant: "Then pay me 5000 crowns, nothing else."

Petruchio: "No, but seriously, raising the price with 1000 crowns is horrendous."

The merchant: "I'm sure she'll be happy with the diamond though."

Petruchio lets out a frustrated sigh and thinks. The Waiter walks up with the coffee.

Waiter: "For you, sir.”

The merchant: “Thank you”

The Waiter gives the coffee. And walks away again.

Petruchio: "Can I see the diamond?"

The merchant: "Very well, since no one is around I suppose I can."

The merchant opens the suitcase and reveals the diamond.

The merchant: "Here it is, the red diamond."

Petruchio inspects it.

Petruchio: "Hmm, that certainly looks real. At least you're not fully lying..."

Petruchio glances at the Waiter and gives a wink.

The merchant: "What was that?"

Petruchio: "Oh, nothing, I had something in my eye."

The merchant: "Well? Deal or no deal?"

Petruchio: "Deal, but I'm not paying, thief!"

Petruchio pulls out his dagger. At the same time the merchant also pulls out his weapon. They both stand up. They’re in a stalemate.

Petruchio laughs and speaks up

Petruchio: "Get to it."

The Waiter pulls out a revolver and points it at the Merchant.

Waiter: “You’re under arrest for multiple crimes against stealing the diamond, drop your weapon.”

Petruchio is smiled smugly, and the merchant's confidence falters.

The Merchant: “What the hell is this?”

Waiter: “Drop the weapon.”

The merchant complies and drops the dagger.

Waiter: “Hands behind your back.”

The merchant: “Who are you really?”

Waiter: “I go as Hortensio, as for I am here for the assistance of Petruchio”

Petruchio laughs nonchalantly.

Petruchio: “Did you really think I’d be so stupid as to come here unprepared? It was a performance! I rented out the whole cafe, you were played like a book.”

The merchant: “Damn you!”

Petruchio: "Ha, you should have seen it coming. Too late now. Have fun amongst the rats."

The play ends with the merchant in cuffs and Petruchio grabbing the diamond.
