Parham- I agree with the author because I believe that everyone deserves the same respect and should be treated similarly in sports, because wearing restrictive clothes can affect your performance, particularly in sports like tennis.

Priestley links the theme of responsibility to Sheila to promote feminism which perpetuates Priestley's socialist message. Sheila learns quickly about her wrongdoings and takes responsibility. Sheila explains that "if I could help her now I would". The word "help" demonstrates that Sheila is taking responsibility and feeling remorse whereas Mr Birling was not taking responsibility and felt that "if you don't come down sharply on these people they'd be asking for the earth" which shows the moral gap between the younger and older generation.

Priestley presents the theme of responsibility in An Inspector calls to expose how the upper class and businessmen are egotistical on the other hand the younger generation is more responsible. When the Inspector was asking questions, Sheila paid attention and felt responsible for Eva's actions. Priestley uses stage directions "She almost broke down just control herself" to highlight Sheila's feelings. The verb "break down" shows that Sheila feels guilty and heartbroken about Eva's suicide and can't handle the pain. As the audience would have likely been middle and upper-class, Priestley may have been encouraging the audience to move away from selfishness and take more responsibility.

i chose the quote "so sending him off to middle school like a lamb to the slaughter." the context around this was during the mum and dads argument, the dad had said this angrily as the mom suggested sending him to school for the first time. The author has used a simile here to really show how the father feels about this and the comparison of a lamb to the slaughter is shows he is saying that he is the lamb and school is where he will be slaughtered. From this quote i learn that people are treated differently simply because of how they look and this causes even the parents of the boy to make assumptions on how others will act. This causes us to feel empathy for him just like we would feel empathy for a lamb being sent to the slaughter.

It is clear that Olivia Pullman is portrayed as “the helper” in the novel because she has a wise mind and a bright heart, grateful and appreciative for the life and family she has. Despite the lack of attention she received from her parents, she did not complain or try to put any pressure on their shoulders. Ever since her brother August came into this world, her life has not been the same. All the attention and love was dragged to him and completely drifted away from her. But why was that? Unfortunately, he had facial deformations and had to be taken care of well. And although he appeared to be such a blessing to all the members of the family, others absolutely disagreed. He appeared to be a disgusting creature in their eyes, unwelcome into this world. However, the look of horror people gave him never came across her face. This is shown by the quote above where she describes her feelings towards him and the two sides of her. One, which sees him as an extraordinary boy and the other, where she sees him as a sickening human being. No matter what people think of Auggie, she is still thankful for having him as a brother and will always be on his side and support him. Olivia has consistently pushed him forward and encouraged him to face his fears. And as a result, he seems to be gaining confidence and getting used to emerge in public.

Dear Ms Palacio, I’m a fan of your novel Wonder, and I had a few questions about a certain part, if you would be so kind to answer them.

I was wondering what inspired you to write Olivia’s character, as while I can imagine how it must feel to be Augusts sister, I’m quite sure nothing I imagine would come close to how real the way you made her seems. It would most certainly be hard for her, but you captured that in a way it seems like it would happen, yet the chance someone looks like August is 1 in 4 Million, and even less would have experienced Olivia’s plight.

I also have questions about a specific part of the book, the chapter ‘Bird’. Of several other situations, what made you choose one where Olivia doesn’t invite him to something they’ve come to all her life? I think it shows how when she was younger she was just used to it, and how she changed and her views changed as she grew. It creates a situation where, when she says “I’m a terrible person” to Justin, you feel like its more for the fact that she has never kept something like this from her parents or August, and creates a parallel between where she was used to the fact they would probably miss it maybe just a year ago, because if August, and that she was actively wanting for them to not come.

Thank You, and your novel is an educational, yet emotional story, that I believe should be read by everyone.
