○Encompassed in the novel became there is no absolute truth...
○Typical feature of postmodern writing is that the text draws attention to the texts own construction
○Atonement represents itself as a novel initially and then finally we see that it is a rewrite of Briony's novel, who is also a character in the novel itself. Because of the novel has 2 contradictory endings, this is a postmodernist feature because it defeats convetionalism and draws attention to it's structure and intentions.

The novel is a metafiction because of the following elements:
• it is a story within a story ~ it is a novel where a character within the novel itself is writing a novel which she is also a character in.
• it is a story about someone writing a book~Briony is writing novel in the novel.
•The character (in this case, Briony) is taking part in a story and is commenting on the story while writing it.
•it emphasizes it story's status as a work of fiction~ because Briony does not give Cecilia and Robbie a happy ending and however included that they got married before changing the plot, it highlights the fictionality of the novel that the novel is emphasizing it's status as a work of fiction.
