Because of this, it is very rare that people are allowed to walk inside the whare and hold services at the Marae, as it holds a cultural significance for all of Te Arawa.

Ko Ngongotaha tōku Maunga.

Mt Ngongotaha is a significant Maunga in the area of Ngati Whakaue as it is home to various different places such as Skyline Skyrides, Nature Tracks as well as a Ngāti Whakaue Urupa named Pukepoto, which is strictly reserved for immediate whanau only. This is a sacred and special Maunga for our whanau just as much as others who take in the breath-taking views from on the Maunga along the walking tracks.

St Faiths Anglican Church is a very treasured church in the Ngati Whakaue Area due to where it is positioned. This is because it is where the cemetery of all the Maori Battalion Missionaries lies as well as Te Papaiouru Marae which is part of the reason that it stands there. This is because when it was built, the tinted panes at the back of the church line up with Lake Rotorua so that an image of Jesus can be seen standing upon the lake as you look through the windows, along with Maori weaving and patterns across the walls that symbolised the relationship between the British who were there at the time and the people of Te Arawa.
