The American Flag by Lloyd G. Douglas

This book talks all about the American Flag, from it's beginning to what it represents. The flag was chosen on June 14, 1977. There was only thirteen stars on the first American flag. It has gone through many changes, for example, our current flag has fifty stars.

This book is a good example of what an information text book should be like. In the beginning, the reader will see that there is a table of contents, which aids them in finding information they are specifically looking for. Throughout the text the author uses bold words. The bold words can be found in the back of the book under the glossary, along with their definitions.

This informational book is about a Chameleon looking for food. It encounters different reptiles while from tree to tree. The graphics are very clear. The photos are real and show the action of the chameleon through a day of his life. This gives the reader a sense of what a chameleon would normally do to catch his prey. Another aspect of informational text seen in this book would be the actual facts of chameleons on the last two pages.

This is an expository text about giant pandas and their lifestyles and habitats. The Chinese name for a giant panda is 大熊猫 (da xiong mao). When pandas give birth, they only have one for every three years and it is about 900 times smaller than its mother. Not only that, when they cry, they sound like human babies. Then majority of giant pandas live in reserves or zoos because of their near extinction. This is so that they are encouraged to mate and give birth along with caring for their young.
This book has a lot of the categories associated to informational text. It contains a lot of pictures with labels pointing out the parts of the animal. In addition to that, the entire text is full of information about the giant panda. At the end of the book, there is actually a fact sheet listing the most important facts mentioned in the text. Although the book does not contain a few features that appear in information text like a table of contents or a glossary, it is still informational in that it tells the reader a lot of information about a certain subject.

I pledge allegiance

This book was very informative to children curious about the Pledge of Allegiance. Authors Bill Martin Jr and Michael Sampson take the readers through a historical journey regarding the famous flag of the United States of America. Readers learn useful and silly things such as why the flag is not pink.
This text is very useful and would be great for elementary students. However the design is a little distracting. Every page has a line from the pledge of allegiance. Following this is information about it. However it might be confusing for children to read. At the end of the book there is a whole page with the pledge of allegiance stated, which is super helpful. I actually learned things about the pledge of allegiance that I did not know, such as it was published in a magazine for children. The background and historical information allow readers to become knowledgeable on the topic of their country and their rights.
