In the devotion (andakt in swedish - like a small service with our groups) we light candles and name the people we miss. Not only the dead. Grief can come in all forms.

In my previous church I visited the schools in the week before Halloween. The ambition has been to offer that to the schools close to Barnens Katedral but we haven't had the hours. The idéa however is good.

We came to the class, preferably in costume, and talked about halloween, where the tradition came from, what's an ok trick when trick-or-treating?, what do they like to dress up as? Do the costumes have to be scary? Why you should only knoch on houses that have pumpkins and halloweendecorations.

That lead us to talk about the swedish tradition of All hallows eve of lighting candles, visiting graveyards, thinking of the deceased. Why some older people could be offended.

Finally we read a story about death and the concept of heaven (larver och trollsländor)

Halloween disco

In Karlstad Halloween is often on a leave from school. Open preeschool have had a halloween disco where the kids and their families have come in costumes. We decorated the church with discolights, played music and the kids played and danced and ate popcorn

make lanterns from glassjars. Both halloween-themed and autum themed where we glued colourful leaves on the jars.
Painted candles to light at home or on graves
facepainting
carve pumpkins but with positive and religious symbols, hearts, happy faces etc to decorate the church
