Chemical signals are used for marking territory, scaring predators, or drawing attention. Many species including dogs mark their territory by urinating on it. This lets other animals know that they are not invited there. Squid use a special ink to temporarily blind and confuse predators when being attacked. Lastly bees release a chemical that the other bees smell which notifies them that the hive in endangered. Due to this, the bees begin to swarm.

Visual communication is usually used during the day. This is because you are unable to see in the dark. Visual signals is when a movement or color is used to communicate a message to something. Visual signals are most commonly used by Humans and Birds.

Auditory signals are used by most animals and human beings. They are used to convey a message, defend territory, attract mates, and more. For example, if you come across a rattle snake, they will shake their tail to warn you that they are there. You hear these signals every day wether it is a bird chirping or a teacher yelling at the class to do their work.

Plumage was an adaptive trait. The peacocks needed a way protect their eggs. To protect these eggs, they grew out longer tails. These tails consisted of bright and colorful colors. When a predator approaches they will throw these feathers up in a bright and frightening display.
