The actors of the Salem Witch Trials were very despicable and cruel people. As shown in Doc D, Upham explains, "They soon...became intoxicated...by the terrible success of their imposture (acting). This shows how the actors became caught up in the act of killing people, enemies or not. This is a very sad point in time for the human race because of the hateful acts and killing for sport.

Thirst for POWER!

Many people were put to death during the Salem Witch trial hysteria. There are several theories for why they lasted so long, however, a key thought was a thirst for power. As shown in document E, from 1661 to 1681, the eastern half of Salem came into wealth and political influence. The western half were jealous of the eastern half, so when power came into their hands, they wanted to keep it. They acted afflicted and would have as many killed as needed if it meant they could keep power. In conclusion, many people had the awful thirst for power in any form they could get.

What was the Salem Witch Trial Hysteria?

The Salem Witch Trial hysteria, began and ended in the year of 1692. Many theories about why it started have been floating around, but one thing is for sure, it was serious. 20 people were killed due to being testified as witches (Background essay). Many of the accused were married women in their 40's to 60's (Doc. B). Another cause was to young girls with a thirst for power. A group of girls were recorded to act controlled by the accused witches. Lastly, paranoia may have infused people with fear. From fear of Native predictions, to extreme religious beliefs, and no knowledge of many things. This created much fear amongst people. In conclusion, there could have been many reasons for the hysteria, but one thing is for sure, it was a scary time of fear of the unknown.
