         <description><![CDATA[<div>Miller was saying that the Puritans were extremely afraid of losing the hold they had on society, and lashed out to try to regain it when they started to feel their power slip.  The people in charge of the Puritan society preached about uniformity and wanted everyone to be the same, and feel the same, and believe the same.  But that is not how people work, so eventually individuality started to show.  All the townspeople were sinners and made mistakes before the witch hunts came about, but the hunts revealed their individual selves to the public, when they were previously hidden.</div>]]></description>
