1. One interesting thing about me is that I am addicted to interior design shows and do a lot of pinteresting for my dream home.
2. I am really interested to hear about all of your questions for this module. I really am passionate about issues of religion, gender and sexuality. I enjoy making use of contemporary and creative examples in the classroom (think about religious symbolism in Ariana Grande's God is a woman or in Beyoncé's Lemonade for example). It really excites me when students start looking at taken-for-granted things through a different perspective

1. I love the outdoors, hiking, camping etc. and I have an old soul when it comes to my taste in music.

2. This module will hopefully seek to make people aware of how easily female bodies are sexualized. For example at the recent olympic games there was a big out cry about the sporting atire worn by females as oppsed to the males atheletes. This is just one aspect that this module deals with and when incorperating the church and religion in the debates it makes things very interesting. My question is, Could this module or the concept thereof be expanded to reach wider communities and faith groups so that people other than those associated with UWC can start having these important converations?

1) Hey fellow ethics colleagues. In answering the first question regarding providing something interesting about myself: I am a very well-rounded intrest individual who has an inspiring intrest in many philosophies, worldviews, politic and policies, culture and sociology. And also, I do have a huge passion for things such as fashion, interior and exterior housing-design, cars, music (all types, from classic to modern favorites), business and corporate operations, cosmopolitan and traveling, and food and culinary science etc,. Yes, lol I like to grow my perspective as broad and diverse as possible because I think the world is bigger than ourselves and our own conservative circles, therefore such undertaking of life is imperative in my opinion.

2) My burning question for this course is, will this module be potent enough, or is this module probing enough to question the norms and stereotypes of each and every participant of this module? Or, is it possible that the content coverage would just be vague and too ambiguous that nothing really penetrative for the participants of this ethics 321 module?

This module comes at the right time since until recently, the President of Ghana and government has been put into a tight spot to adopt a proposal to criminalize LGBT advocacy, denouncing 'suspects', advocates for conversion therapy and longer jail sentences. It is ironic but also shocking that in a survey by Afrobarometer done in 2014, 90% of Ghanaians would actually agree to such a decision. Surely the world cannot afford to look on at what looks like a country on the verge of 'holocaust'. My question :What part do we play as scholars, here, in our little context, in helping to make a difference and changing the dominant narrative in a country other than our own?

Hi everyone!
While I enjoy the outdoors, sunshine and fresh air, I am most at home behind a computer screen or with a videogame controller in my hands (or with a steering wheel in my hands and pedals at my feet). Also, I am a massive Potterhead (could you tell from my picture?)

I've always considered the key to tackling issues such as GBV to be most effective from an early stage (it is easier to teach a young boy than an old man). Perhaps my most burning question/desire from this module is how I as a young, Coloured, Hetersexual Male (31y.o.) can assess and perhaps shift my own thinking about gender and human sexuality. At the end of the day, if I wish to continue being the mentor I am to some of my youth members, I too need to understand that the world I grew up in is vastly different to the one we live in today.

1. One random thing about me is that over the past year during lockdown, I have found a new passion in gardening where I find myself spending most of the day. I find that it is a great escape from the online world we find ourselves in today and it serves as great therapy for the mind and soul.
2. My burning question for this course is how do I navigate between separating my personal beliefs/values from that of what the course will teach us. I am open to all thoughts, opinions, beliefs and values without any judgement, however I would like advice on how to write an essay which justifies this module while still holding true to myself.

Well hello everyone,

The name is Shane Thomas (40), Dad to David & Riley and husband to Angela. I have put up my hand for ministry within the Anglican Church and while following my journey of discernment and discovery; I juggle my professional role as an events co-ordinator at the Cape Town Stadium as well as my responsibilities as husband, father, chauffeur, braai master, confirmation instructor, Lay Minister and part-time BTH student.

Favourate quote that has become my rule of life states “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.” St Francis of Assisi (I dont alway get it right but thanks to Ethics I've started to understand why)

MORAL DISCOURSE ON GENDER AND HUMAN SEXUALITY in my opinion requires active participation & robust engagement through dialogue as its content presents both that which defines us (rightly or wrongly) but also that which should redefine us. This is my biggest challenge with our approach as to date, the correspondence learning method seems cold and distant, unlike our other modules being offered.

I am Kerishnie Juries a 23 year old second youngest of 4. Some random facts about me are that I am completely obsessed with cats/kittens and watching the big bang theory. I am a cat mom of 3 which many finds weird but my partner and I feel that having pets are going to be more to our liking than having children and people hate that. I am also extremely into cars and racing, which again is weird because I know more about cars than some men which makes them feel extremely insecure for some reason.

I do not have a question and will take this course as it comes because it's one of the only ethics modules that I have read the outline and found interesting.

I am a grandfather of three, 2 boys and a girl. I enjoy watching my wife have fun and hear her stories about traveling Africa, I plan to accompany her should the opportunity present itself to travel abroad, one day. Otherwise sport on TV is my escape!!

Regarding this Module: I'm interested to see how my conservative mind will be broadened where the LGBTQI+ community is concerned. Knowing my background, I know I will be challenged because I've always seen the world in black and white, but have recently found that the grey areas in live actually exist and can be very interesting.

Hi my name is Jessie Johnson and I consider myself to be a people's person. I try to be my most authentic self. I am very involved in the New Apostolic faith through singing and fulfilling a leadership role for the youth/young people. Aside from being a full time student, I work as well and always try my best to fulfill all my responsibilities and obligations head on. I pride myself in always opening my mind and I'm not afraid to learn new aspects in life because knowledge is power and I believe that one can never stop learning.

I chose this module because I believe human beings tend to depend on religion, sexuality, race and various other social demographic factors in the world. Being a 3rd year student and being exposed to modules such as sociology, psychology and women and gender - I truly find it interesting as to how an indivual and more so how society plays a huge role in one's social status and moulds us into who we are today. The social process is never-ending and I believe this module will simply add and broaden my knowledge further.

Hello to all souls.

My name is Batul Hendricks and what makes me interesting is the fact that I am the kind of person to break all societal "boxes", based on certain cultural stigmas relating to the fact that the world has been dictated and scripted for the benefit of men ad females voices were and still are silenced. Within my religion, Islam and coming from the colored/Indian community, being raised with certain dogma ha caused me to deviate from a spiritual path or a God-consciousness. After much introspection and years of regaining the power that has been stripped from me by 'society', I chose to actively speak from the perspective of women's voices within my community. I am someone with an active professional career in Classial Indian dancing and quite the presence on social media. I use these platforms to uplift, motivate and inspire the younger generation of females and children. So whats random about me, is that I am random. :)

With this module I have yet to discover my burning question, although what I would hope to achieve through this module is a general perspective on religion, gender and sexuality as a whole. Knowledge and skills to better assist me to continue with the work I wish to achieve within my community and broader. I am looking forward to this module and perspective of lecturer, assisted lecturers and fellow classmates.
