2nd Activity Prompt: “Opposite” by Gabri-EL Villanueva

Conceptualization

Based on the first Art prompt that I did. It gave me inspiration as to how I'd be able to produce my work. Since my previous artwork was mainly the use of photography, I took a different approach as to how I'd be able to make what I just did. The image that you see before you is what gave me the inspiration to be able to choose the medium; The medium I chose was mainly watercolors. Which to me somehow gave the idea to create that opposite feel based on the first art prompt. Since Photography captures moments in digital form I took the liberty to somehow capture the essence and aesthetic of my previous work applying it to this piece through the process of using watercolors, pencils, and pens.

2. Watercolors
the watercolors I used were from this Japanese brand that my mom bought for me a long time ago; the branding faded due to love and use :)

3. Water Brushes
I'm not sure what brand these are but I bought them back in Manila at Fully Booked which is this local book store there :)

Challenges Encountered

I planned to start making my art prompt #2 a week after the activity itself was given, but due to many activities given by other subjects as well as issues happening within my life (family) this hindered me from being able to make it on time. Aside from that other thing such as the noise going on in our home since we are a pretty big family and difficulty setting up the camera and lighting (which is my phone) to film the entire process. Nevertheless I was still able to do what is needed to be able to produce my artwork. Now things don't usually go as planned but I tried my best to be able to make what I started :')

Pencils, Pens and Erasers
The type of pencil I used to sketch my piece was just a regular pencil. To trace it I used two different kinds of black markers; one which had a smaller tip while the other had a larger tip in order to fill in necessary spaces to create my work. Glitter and metallic pens were needed as well to give it more detail

ArtWork Process & Experimentation

In this video, you will be able to see the entire process as to how I was able to create this piece; from experimenting with different shades of yellows and oranges to adding more detail by blowing the watercolor to the sides creating this splashed effect. After doing that I then moved on to creating the main part of my piece, which is the figure of a woman facing to the side. Her hair was mainly drawn out in tight curls and her face was filled in with black ink from the sharpie marker; additional details were added using the metallic gold, silver, and copper pens. I decided to film the entire process of its creation instead of taking pictures so that you get a better view of how I was able to create my piece. The size of the 2 minute video I made for its entire process couldn't fit through this PadLet so I decided to upload it to my google drive for you to view it.

Final Outcome

which translates to "sun" in English; just like my first artwork which is based off of the concept of sunlight. This piece was made just to be like that, but in a way of using water color as my medium to express my appreciation of the way the sunlight can give this sort of positive impact to many people just like me.
