I work during the school year in the elementary schools in the district. Classrooms 3-4 have a class set of iPads that are assigned individually to students. 5th -12th grade all have their own iPads. More and more students are taking our online classes, I would say that many are not prepared for it and simply take it thinking it is the easier way to get their PE credit.

"self-directed mobile learning" This is great for some students and they do well and can manage and operate it with ease. Creating lessons and sharing videos and ideas with coworkers has its advantages.
Instead of trying to find your teacher in school or on campus, an simple email can be sent. Saying that I've seen that backfire too , with too many emails are being sent instead of just reading the newsletter, listening in class or at practice, or looking at directions on the worksheet.

"...42% of students say too many rules at school limit tech use." There needs to be limits to everything and wonder if sometimes there should be more limits on what students have access to or the amount of time they are in front of their screens.

"Decreasing in interest : Summer camps, after school programs and student competition." Not concerned about the student competition part but it is good for students to know how to win and lose gracefully. Worried about physical activity and the ability to do gross motor skills because there has be limited participation with them.

Bloomington has ipads for grades k-2 and then all students are issued a Chromebook beginning in 3rd grade. The push for digital content continues to evolve each year. Numbers leaving the district is what pushed Bloomington's own creation of online dedicated courses and hybrid versions as well. We are very much in the beginning stages of the online content and there have been many challenges already. Students have voiced they appreciate the variety and choice, so it continues to evolve at this point.

Variety is so very important and having that time in the summer to sample different activities and generally be creative is absolutely vital. I think we tend to have an all or nothing approach to far too many things.

At the wealthier school I had fun with them, but they didn't seem as deeply connected.

There can be videos made as a joke and they would believe it. It is very important for them to double check what they consume and research something before taking it as fact.
