Jenna- SEL can be presented in a good amount of ways in the classroom environment. For example, they can be easily included in lessons and reinforced throughout the year. I think that SEL is also a great tool, especially for elementary students to be able to recognize and regulate their emotions. By learning SEL at such a young age, students are also able to carry this information into their careers and rest of their adult life.

Martin - I learned that SEL started well after I had finished school. I graduated from college in 2000 and Erin said it was new in 2010. That also explains why I never saw it while I was teaching in China. I feel that since I always taught adults I have much less experience with SEL.

Kash-Multiple factors can influence the emotional state of a student and consequently that student's ability to learn and participate. The SEL approach is intended to understand that dynamic and to provide tools to address and improve.
