He began his career with highly satirical work and later softened it while implementing historical characters to connect to America's history. He lived until 1859 where he died of a heart attack in his own home.

Katrina van Tassel is a flirt and she is very independent, asserting her power through beauty and wealth. Brom Bones loves joking around and bragging. His nickname was derived from his strength although deemed harmless. There are many other minor characters.

This town is known for its haunting atmosphere, which is aided by the Headless Horseman. Neither outcome is confirmed but rather speculated. This all happens due to Katrina ending their relationship at one of her parties, causing Ichabod to leave in shambles. This could be interpreted as Katrina's fault; if she did not end up breaking off the relationship with Ichabod, he may not have rushed home and ended up disappearing. There is also a very open interpretation on whether or not Ichabod is still alive. It is possible he was so embarrassed by not only Katrina but the Horseman as well and kept running after he was knocked off of his horse.
