No. Palm oil is unhealthier compared to the vegetable oil. It's because of the saturated fat in palm oil seemed to have the same effects on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol as that in animal fat in comparison to the vegetable oil that have low saturated fat. High levels of LDL cholesterol would increase the risk for cardiovascular diseases. However, in terms for the other part such as less cholesterol, less sugar, high in minerals and high in vitamins, both oil got almost the same value.

1) Is palm oil healthier than other vegetable oils? If so, why?

Yes, palm oil healthier than other vegetable oils due to palm oil can lower the cholesterol, free from trans fat, can be used for weight loss and increasing the body's metabolism. Palm oil contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which are good for health and palm oil also contains saturated fats, which are often associated with cardiovascular -related problems. However, research has proven that palm oil does not pose any additional risk of leading to cardiovascular disease when consumed because it is considered part of a balanced diet. In addition, palm oil is also free of cholesterol and waxy substances that are at risk for heart disease. In fact there is strong evidence to suggest that a diet containing palm oil can actually minimize cholesterol levels in an individual. In a 2015 clinical trial published in the journal Food and Function, it was stated that the use of both palm oil and olive oil was effective in reducing cholesterol levels by 15 percent. Palm oil is also free of trans fats, which are generally known to be unhealthy for an individual’s body. Vegetable oils such as soybean and sunflower are liquid at room temperature and need to go through an industrial process known as hydrogenation to convert them to semi -solids where producing trans fats are known to be associated with cardiovascular disease while palm oil is naturally semi -solid at room temperature and no need to be hydrogenated. Therefore, it does not contain trans fats. This is evidenced when there is a journal called The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition which says that replacing trans fats with palm oil can reduce heart disease risk markers and improve blood lipids.

REFERENCES :
Spritzler, F.

As per my understanding plam oil is not healthier compared to vegetable oil . Because palm oil contains saturated fats which will cause health problem if a person consume more then needed. Where else vegetable oil contains unsaturated fats which is better comparing to saturated fats. Hence, saturated fats will increase the LDH level in a person’s body which will lead to disease such as heart attack. In general unsaturated fats are healthier compare to saturated fats

Partial. When compared to most other vegetable oils, palm oil contains a high amount of saturated fat; however, studies have found inconsistent effects of palm oil on blood lipids. When compared to vegetable oils low in saturated fat, it significantly increased LDL cholesterol by 0.24 mmol/L (95 percent CI: 0.13, 0.35 mmol/L; I2 = 83.2 percent). This effect was found in randomised trials (0.31 mmol/L; 95% CI: 0.20, 0.42 mmol/L) but not in nonrandomized trials (0.03 mmol/L; 95% CI: 0.15, 0.20 mmol/L; P-difference = 0.02). After controlling for the test oil dose and comparison oil type, only minor heterogeneity in study results remained (I2 = 27.5 percent) in randomised trials. Palm oil increased HDL cholesterol by 0.02 mmol/L (95 percent CI: 0.01, 0.04 mmol/L; I2 = 49.8 percent) compared to low saturated fat vegetable oils and by 0.09 mmol/L (95 percent CI: 0.06, 0.11 mmol/L; I2 = 47.8 percent) compared to trans-fat-containing oil. Palm oil consumption raises LDL cholesterol, and its effects on blood lipids are as expected given its high saturated fat content but depend on the individual body system.

Ye Sun, Nithya Neelakantan, Yi Wu, Rashmi Lote-Oke, An Pan, Rob M van Dam, Palm Oil Consumption Increases LDL Cholesterol Compared with Vegetable Oils Low in Saturated Fat in a Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials, The Journal of Nutrition, Volume 145, Issue 7, July 2015, Pages 1549–1558, https://doi.org/10.3945/jn.115.210575

Palm oil is high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, both of which are recognised to be healthy. Based on previous research, palm oil contains the high level of saturated fat that could be dangerous for cardiovascular health. Meanwhile, vegetable oils low in saturated fat. However, palm oil can reduce cholesterol level. Palm oil's saturated fat appeared to have the same effect on LDL cholesterol as animal fat. This was also reflected in palm oil's considerable increase in LDL cholesterol when compared to low-saturated-fat vegetable oils. In my opinion, palm oil is less healthier than other vegetable oil.

No, palm oil is less health than other vegetable oils because it has composition of roughly equal parts of saturated fat and unsaturated fat- 50% saturated fatty acids, 40% monounsaturated fatty acids, and 10% polyunsaturated fatty acids. Palm oil has higher contents of saturated fat compared to other liquid oils, for example olive oil contains less than half of saturated fat in palm oil. The high saturated content in palm oil can increases cholesterol levels and this leads to harmful disease like cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and obesity. In addition to that, oxidized palm oil can also increase health risks, in which the oxidization occurs during the process of culinary use, generating toxins that adversely affect the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys. Tocotrienol levels in fresh and aged palm oil have a slight different. Hence, reheating palm oil may lose the benefits of fresh palm oil and it increase risk of heart disease like atherosclerosis.

Is palm oil healthier than other vegetable oils? If so, why? Please justify your answer.

It depends. Palm oil does contain saturated fatty acids which is considered unhealthy compared to some vegetable oils such as olive oil and sunflower oil. Presence of saturated fatty acids raises the unwanted Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol level. Despite that, study shows that if consuming palm oil as a part of balanced diet, it will not cause much health risk.

On the other hand, palm oil also contains unsaturated fatty acids which is beneficial to health. Besides, palm oil is free from cholesterol and trans fat that could cause cardiovascular diseases. It is free from trans fat due to its chemical and physical properties that prevent it from undergoing industrial hydrogenation process which creates trans fat.

References

Asian Agri. Vegetables oil in other case, such as soybean and sunflower is liquid in room temperature. Palm oil contains more vitamin E, as vegetable oils contain more vitamin K, monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fat. Palm oil offers 50% saturated fat, however vegetable oils, such as olive oil, contain only 14% of saturated fat. Palm oil is classified as unhealthy due to the presence of palmitic acid, the major saturated fat found in palm oil. It will cause a rise in "bad" LDL cholesterol as well as big LDL particles. Other vegetable oils have 14.7367g less saturated fat than palm oil, which has 49.3g. However, the amount of vitamin E in palm oil (15.94mg) and vegetables (14.78mg) is not significantly different. Vegetable oil, with 48.033mg of monosaturated fat and 33.033g of polyunsaturated fat, has a higher monosaturated fat content than palm oil, which has 9.3 g.
