Welcome to our brand new Padlet page, which will now be a source of constant communication between the classroom and the home. 

The last couple of weeks have been very exciting as we have celebrated ROALD DAHL DAY - the day that Roald Dahl would have turned 100 years old. We watched a short biography of his life and learnt about what inspired him to write the great classics that have brought us all much joy. What an incredible role model! He is really helping us with improving our writing. 

This week we have been studying more about the First Contact between Europeans and Indigenous Australians. Next week we will begin our podcasts, recording our very own History Radio Show and sharing all of our in depth knowledge about this important time in Australia's history. Go, 4B!

Miss Alex Shulz will be with 4B for all of Week 10 as Miss Corbett is going to be on a Year 10 Camp. She is going to miss 4B a LOT, but this arrangement was made at the beginning of the year and could not be changed. Luckily, Miss Shulz has been able to come in and meet us this week, and is so excited to be a part of the team.

We pray for all families coping with blackouts, flooding and severe rain and look forward to Spring awaiting us on the other side.

Tomorrow, being the last day of term, we will be watching 'Matilda' to celebrate our studies of Roald Dahl, and there will be an Assembly in Lesson 7.

I trust that you're all having a fantastic break and embracing the sunny days that we have been having. The Year 4 teachers have been busy at school today planning for Term 4 and I was just so excited that I had to announce that we will be studying Poetry for the first four weeks of term. Some of the types of poems we will be looking at are: limericks, haiku, and odes (to name a few). We will also be studying how we can use things like similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia to improve our poetry. We are all very excited about this! If you've got any poetry books laying around, start getting into them :)
Enjoy your last week of rest and rejuvenation and we'll see you all next Monday! There will soon be lots of poems written by various students shared on this very Padlet page.

Today's 'fruit' was LOVE. We reflected on how we show love to others in our daily lives, and shared these on a poster. This is now hanging up in the classroom so we can feel inspired to show love in different ways to our families, friends and pets. We all agree that true love is putting the needs of another person in front of our own.

In Maths we delved into Fractions, in Health we began our unit on Nutrition, we discussed strategies for the Paired Reading that we'll be undertaking this term, and we practiced the letter 'e' in Handwriting. Phew!

1. Can you give me an example of a simile?
2. Who is your paired reading partner and which book are you reading?
3. What is one nutrition fact you can remember from today? For example, why do we need fruit and vegetables?

Here, there were over 15 stations with different maths activities, helping us to engage our mathematical thinking in logic, problem solving and trial and error. It was such a great opportunity to experience Maths in an interactive manner and we loved working in teams (see photos below)!

Today we spoke about PEACE in Christian Studies, as it is one of the fruits of the spirit. We decided to link our Christian Studies to our poetry unit, and wrote what Peace means to us by writing them in the form of a metaphor. As we are learning, a metaphor is when you compare a feeling or thing to something else to help readers visualise what we mean.

For example:
Peace is candlelight and a good book.
Peace is a cup of tea in the garden.

Here are some that our class members came up with:
'Peace is lying in a field covered with flowers' - Abby.
'Peace is floating on water, feeling the water on my face' - Will.
'Peace is being voluntarily thoughtful of others around you' - Beatrice.
'Peace is sitting on a boat feeling the wind against my face' - Hayden.

The shark's fin was very sharp
And with that fin he played a harp
He strummed so hard the harp soon broke
And thought this to be a wonderful joke

We also looked at rhyming verses and wrote one of our own about 4B. It took a lot of editing but here is the final product:

4B is the best class on Earth
If you come in you'll have so much fun
We're awesome, creative, clever and cool,
And you should see how much work we get done!

I can't wait to read all of the rhyming poems that the funky Year 4's can come up with on their own!

With just 17 days of school left, things are starting to get very busy around here. Phew! And on top of all that we are cramming in 15 minutes of fitness every day to meet our PE Week challenge. Furthermore, one of the main goals in Japanese is for students to be exposed to the cultural differences between Australia and other countries, so that they can learn to understand, respect ad perhaps even enjoy certain cultural elements that may tend to surprise us from time to time.
