1. Where do you start? Who do you select? Maybe one grade level or department. Also include your influencers.
2. We don't foresee any student push back. This system seems to make understanding grades easier. Possibly students trying to get into certain colleges would care. We would discuss the why with students as well as the families.
3. Fighting against a generation of "old school" grading. Parents will possibly equate #s to letter grades. We would address their concerns by maintaining transparency and hosting parent info sessions about grading.
4. We would send out information before the change occurs. Clear communication, time and opportunity to ask questions.
5. With the rest of the staff we could offer them mini opportunities to try out standards based grading. within a unit or subject. Maybe we could start with digital badges to get those teachers on board with that part. Integration of content/skill rubrics and have teachers start using them as teaching and grading tools.
6. You may be alone in your classroom or you may get one or two team mates to construct standards based grades or digital badges. You could take student and parent feedback and share it with staff.

Why is it necessary? Address it with: Our staff's philosophy of grades is ______. We are trying to help your child have a better sense of where their skills and content knowledge actually are so that they can take ownership of their learning. This more accurately mirrors how people are assessed in the workplace through evaluation processes, etc.
4.
