I really liked this quote because it reminded me of the teacher that made the biggest impact in my life. It also reminded me of the eight teachers that Ladson-Billings used for the writing of her book. In chapter 7 and throughout the book, it is evident that these educators had one goal in mind. They wanted to teach children and make a difference in their lives and the community around them. As future educators, I think it is our duty to guide our students and teach them not only the required curriculum, but to encourage them to open their minds.

This picture reminded me of the classroom I am currently shadowing in. The diversity that exists in our classroom is a reality that cannot be ignored. I liked this phrase because it is important to acknowledge and celebrate diversity world wide. Similarly, it is important to be conscious that diversity is and will be present in our future classrooms. For this reason, it is important for educators to be able to value their student's differences and create a classroom atmosphere that demonstrates and appreciates the diversity that each student brings.

I chose this quote because I found its words to be very truthful. Throughout my education I have had the opportunity to experience both aspects of this quote. In chapter seven and appendix A, Ladson-Billings speaks of the purpose that lies behind her research and her book. I thought that this quote perfectly described the two paths that education can lead us to. One path chooses to remain still, where students are taught to think inside the box, to remain stagnant and conform with what is being taught. The other path encourages teachers to think critically and creatively, students to participate and discover. Ultimately, causing education to be the cause of transformation of minds, lives, and the world.

I chose this image because I recently read this book. I had teachers who used literature as a way of reaching students and having necessary discussions in a learning environment. I think that true mentors of learning guide students to a process of self discovery by engaging them in classroom activities. I think that good teachers can focus on a book when teaching, yet they can look for ways to make learning relevant so that the students do not only get out of the class with a good grade but with life lessons learned. Similar to the educators that were described in chapter seven of the Dreamkeepers, I believe that it is important to do what is right for our students to be successful.

This video did a great job of explaining how important it is for educators to be culturally relevant and aware of their biases. Mrs. Crum's experiences as a child are an example of how important a teacher's words and actions can be. I chose this video because I felt that it was relevant to the entire book. It will be our responsibility to embrace our future students and to be the facilitators they need to support their growth.
