The activity with the metal spoon gives the students a chance to be with each other in the environment and get to witness first hand how heat is transferred.
As an additional part of the activity the teacher could give the students an ice cube to sit on their spoon during or after it has been heated to show that the heat from the spoon is being used to melt the ice, therefore showing another version of heat transfer between objects. 
When the students are asked to create a PowerPoint of their findings/results they are incorporating ICT components without even realising it. The students will receive their marks back a week after the due date. There may need to be further participation of this type of activity undertaken by the class depending on the results or the students interest in the activity.
