When you move to Luxembourg, please remember to go and register as a new resident with the local authority in Junglinster. Generally, your tutor or a manager will accompany you.

You will have to provide a volunteering certificate, a housing contract and your ID or passport. Once you have been registered, you will receive a certificate: keep it very safe as you may well be asked to show it when making other administrative requests.

While you are carrying out your voluntary service, you will be registered in the Luxembourg Social Security system by the SNJ and compulsorily insured against risk of sickness (only healthcare), old age/disability, long-term health impairment and occupational accident, and the State will pay all social contributions.

In Luxembourg, when you have a medical consultation doctors are generally paid directly (make sure you have some means of payment). Afterwards, the bill must be sent, along with any other additional information, to the National Health Insurance Fund (Caisse nationale de santé, Service Remboursements / L-2980 Luxembourg), so that you are refunded the money in the following weeks.

To see a consultant, usually you have to be referred by a general practitioner.

Remember to keep your European Health Insurance Card with you at all times, as you will be asked for it whenever you have a consultation.

To pay for your shopping:

If you want to have a Luxembourg number, a prepaid card would be the best option as usually they don’t require a contract unlike traditional phone packages (minimum 1-year contract) and depending on your usage, a prepaid card is bound to end up being cheaper for you.

1. No dirty dishes in the sink, on the counter or tables. >9 am

2. Surfaces must be clean.

3. No pans and pots in the dishwasher. Pans and pots are supposed to be washed by hand, with warm water and soap.

If the kitchen is messy and not clean, it will be closed.

 These rules are fixed by the SNJ and are not negotiable.

Additional rules can be added to this list after a discussion and common agreement during a house meeting.

6. The Occupant will tolerate visits to the rented premises by the SNJ on condition that the latter has announced its visit at least 24 hours in advance.
