They lived down the street from each other, and both had a rough upbringing. Both lived an early life of crime. One Wes Moore is currently running for governor while the other is currently serving a life sentence for attempted murder on a police officer. Wes gives us insight on their dads, his dad couldn´t be there for him but the wes moore in jail, his dad chose not to be there. This is important because it gives us more on the main character and how the lack of his father, while growing up, impacted him. This chapter also talks about the time Wes Moore slapped his older sister and the fact that this moment taught him how to treat women and to not be aggressive or do anything with force. We get insight on the day wes moore´s dad died, his dad died from acute epiglottis. In this chapter the reader learns that wes´ mother has been in an abusive relationship and how this impacted her and how she raises her kids. In this chapter his father also dies tragically. Going to a school that could bareley afford lunch. He talks about a time a neighborhood gangster asked what he was doing to get ready for middle school, Wes didn´t know what to say so ¨tony¨"started talking to wes about how to talk to him etc. Tony ended up getting involved in a shoot-out a while later. wes lived in the cherry hill apartments that were meant for returning black veterans but instead became a ground of poverty, drugs and despair. It was here that he met Mary, a new friend, cherry hill was so bad that Mary has been plotting an escape from it, looking for suburban homes or simply a new place to live. This was wes moore´s living condition. He also had no one to look up to except his older brother, the closest thing to a role model he had. It is also in this chapter when Wes Moore meets woody, his first friend, woody noticed his size and build and wanted to recuit him into football which then became wes´ passion. Wes´ and his friends would tell each other stories they over heard from people that had taken drugs before. But then drug gangs began to take over the Bronx, sucking in some of wes´ friends everyone in his neighborhood was scared and were defensive, there were thousands of homicides at the time in New York. When tony knows he´s lying about the money he doesn´t even let wes finish his sentence when he punches Wes in the face.  Mary later finds out Wes was selling drugs and hustling for money. She sat there paralyzed for 15 minutes. She found crack cocaine, marijuana vials of ¨ready rock¨. Now Wes was in danger and owed someone four thousand dollars, but his mom was not in the least bit concerned. In this chapter Wes goes through many roller coasters, Being a nice and innocent boy to becoming a drug dealer. Mary always wanted the best for Wes, whether it´s his grades or his safety.
