The teacher tells the class that "pods" are earned when 90% of the class has good behavior. He lets students sit with friends. He said that he sees better behavior with this reward, and a higher rate of assingment completion. When students misbehave, there is a separation from the pod  until the student is back on track. If more than 3 students act out, the whole class goes back to rows and they start over. I spoke to some students who said this was the only class where they were allowed to sit with friends. They felt like they were trusted and they didn't want to lose that freedom.
