This module series provides 12 hours of interactive learning (+10 hours CoP) with concrete activities, reflection tools, and printable resources that support and extend the learning experience.  Virtual hosts will guide participants through their learning experience, which includes videos from research experts as well as family child care and center-based educators from across California.  Module lessons are designed to be approximately 30 minutes long, and participants need to complete each module via CECO website https://www.caearlychildhoodonline.org/ before attending each Community of Practice (CoP).  Participants will earn a certificate of completion for nine professional development clock hours when they complete the full module series. They will also receive 10 PD clock hours for attending the CoPs.

Learners who complete this module series will build on existing strengths and be able to

• Explore the value of brave and safe spaces and a love-based approach to interacting with children and families in the early care setting.

• Analyze the impacts of bias, racism, and hate on young children’s development and families' interpersonal relationships.

• Understand the critical role of early childhood education to mitigate bias.

• Develop anti-bias, anti-racist, and anti-hate language and practices to influence positive change in early care and education.

• Build an educational equity toolkit to educate, equip, and empower professional consciousness for disrupting bias and implementing responsive actions.

Meaningful observation involves maintaining an open and attentive attitude to understand children's interests and ideas. In this interactive training, participants will develop skills that can be reinforced through daily practice, explore how observation fosters trusting relationships, and learn effective ways to use observation to inform curriculum planning. The training will cover the purpose of observation, methods for collecting documentation evidence, strategies for organizing observation systems, and approaches to assembling comprehensive portfolios.

Infant/Toddler Culture, Family, and Providers

Course Description

This course focuses on the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) approach to infant/toddler care and, specifically, on the importance of creating partnerships with families and the role of culture in the development of the very young child. The course includes an exploration of the importance of culture on early identity formation as well as best practices to provide culturally responsive care in the group care setting. 

This training/course will include 20 hours of training. Also included in this course are director/leadership meetings for center-based directors/leaders and Family Child Care program leaders. Coaching is also provided in the form of observation and feedback sessions with staff participating in the training plan for center-based care, family child care programs, and family, friend, and neighbor care providers. 

This course is available for one (1) semester unit through California State University Fresno’s Division of Continuing and Global Education. 

Student Learning Outcomes: 

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 

• Define and explain the concept of Protective Urges. 

• Define culture and how it influences the young child’s identity formation. 

• Examine their own cultural beliefs. 

• Describe the key elements and benefits of providing culturally responsive care.

Module 100 Pre-K: Trauma Responsive and Resilience Building for Early Childhood Educators

The Trauma Responsive and Resilience Building training series is designed to support early childhood educators and providers serving children ages 3 through 8 years old. The training is designed to support the early childhood workforce to be trauma-informed and equipped with the concrete skills and knowledge to create nurturing, responsive and healing engaged programs for children who have been impacted by trauma and traumatic stress. Module 200 builds on the Module 100 concepts by creating an opportunity to practically apply the trauma-responsive and resilience-building practices.  In this module, we take a deeper dive into the trauma-responsive strategies by providing an opportunity for educators to practice using the strategies through interactive activities, engaging in reflective conversations sharing implementation practices.  The following are the key practices from Module 100 that will be reviewed and practiced: - Teaching children about the Brain, Attuned Responsive and Nurturing Relationships, Safe and Predictable Environments, Body Awareness and Strengthening Sensory and Emotional Literacy, Self-Regulation and Learning to Manage Big Emotions.

In this module, you will learn about how cultivating self-awareness and self-care can buffer and protect you from long-term adverse effects of chronic, toxic or traumatic stress. Self-awareness and self-care also will allow one to have the restored energy reserves to prevent burnout. These concepts are foundational to trauma-informed work as teachers and caregivers cultivating these practices respond to children's dysregulated behavior with regulation, compassion and trauma-responsive strategies versus reactive and trauma-inducing. It also results in more protective factors for you and more joy in living in the present moment.

Many discipline methods fail because they expect adults to teach emotional and behavioral skills, they haven't mastered themselves. Programs that focus only on guiding children's behavior—without supporting adults in developing their own skills—are ineffective. To truly help children, adults must first model the behavior they want to teach. Handling Upset: The Adult-first Mindset Shift encourages adults to lead by example and shift away from the "do as I say, not as I do" approach.

Él desarrollo del lenguaje de niños de cero a tres años

Descripción del Curso

Este curso se centra en el enfoque del Programa Cuidado Infantil (PITC) para el cuidado de niños de cero a tres años y, específicamente, en la importancia de establecer colaboraciones con las familias y en el papel de la cultura en el desarrollo del bebé muy pequeño. El curso incluye una exploración de la importancia de la cultura en la formación temprana de la identidad, así como de las mejores prácticas para ofrecer un cuidado culturalmente sensible en el entorno del cuidado en grupo.

Esta capacitación/curso incluirá 20 horas de capacitación. También se incluyen en este curso reuniones para directores y líderes de centros y programas de cuidado infantil en el hogar. This hybrid series of online modules and virtual meetings.  The Family Engagement Toolkit provides interactive and content-rich modules:  The What, Why, and How of Family Engagement; Build Strengths-based Relationships; Respect the Family’s Role in the Child’s Development; Show Cultural Respect; Take a Shared Approach to Family Engagement.  Each module includes valuable resources to enrich your work with families.

VIPs of Behavior is a six-part professional learning series. Together we'll explore some of the less obvious forces that shape children's behavior.  The way a child processes movement, body position, internal sensations, and cues of safety have a powerful effect on attention, emotional regulation, relationships, participation, and behavior. Over six interactive, two-hour sessions, you will explore:

·         Sensory Integration & Behavior: Too much, too little, or just right? 

·         Vestibular Processing: Struggling to sit still, crashing into others, always on the go, learn what drives movement seeking behavior.

·         Interoception: Physical and emotional outbursts that come "out of nowhere" can be some of the trickiest to understand, explore the system that can clue us in.

·         Proprioception: Children who "don't know their own strength" and behave in ways that are rough, impulsive or aggressive can create a sense of fear in both children and adults.

·         Neuroception: Fight, flight, and freeze are essential for survival, but they aren't learning states.

·         Putting It All Together: Time to put it all together, problem solve and apply what we have learned to real situations in your everyday lives.

Each session will include hands-on activities and opportunities to experience and apply concepts, not just hear about them. Come prepared to move, experience, question, discuss, and look at behavior in a whole new way.
